The Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui trailer talks about the trans community as Vani Kapoor plays a trans woman who Ayushmann Khuranna has fallen in love with.

At a time when NCERT‘s recent debacle happened where they had to remove the training material on the inclusion of transgenders after NCPCR questioned them about the same, it’s a lot more important today to represent the trans community and art does just that with movies like Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui. The queer community, especially people who identify as transgenders have never really gotten the correct representation in Bollywood. All we’ve really got is films like Laxmiii that talk about representing the community but it’s a complete stereotypical representation. Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui starring Ayushmann Khuranna and Vani Kapoor by the looks of the trailer seem to try to provide representation to the trans community with Vani Kapoor playing the role of a trans woman.

According to the trailer, we have a bodybuilder, Manvinder (Ayushmann) who can’t help but fall in love with a Zumba instructor, Maanvi (Vani). But after a whirlwind romance comes in the twist where Manvinder finds out that Maanvi is a trans woman and that’s when all the siyapaa takes place. Manvinder’s conditioned mind is unacceptable of this and yet he’s in love with Maanvi which leads to a web of confusion and chaos. Helmed by Abhishek Kapoor the film will be released in theatres on December 10.

The trailer looks like any other film of Ayushmann Khurrana’s where his characters fall into a web of comedy and confusion because of one societal issue or another. Will Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui be able to give the correct representation that the trans community truly deserves or will it be yet another failed attempt of Bollywood in representing the community? We’ll only get to know on December 10!
