The microblogging website X, formerly known as Twitter, recently introduced its new block feature, and here’s all you need to know about it.
It’s been a year since Twitter became X, and while many continue to call it by its dead name, the platform has been introducing and updating features to keep users engaged. These features have received its share of criticism in the past and users are also finding the latest update questionable.
According to the new update, as shared by X Engineering, blocked users will be able to view posts shared by people they were blocked by, if they have set their accounts as public. While they can still view the posts, they won’t be able to engage with them.
Soon we’ll be launching a change to how the block function works.

If your posts are set to public, accounts you have blocked will be able to view them, but they will not be able to engage (like, reply, repost, etc.).
According to the announcement, X claims that this update will allow for ‘greater transperancy’ by letting the blocked users know if the ones who blocked them are trying to ‘share and hide harmful or private information’.
The block feature currently allows users to restrict sharing their content with their block list. It aligns with the purpose that makes the feature meaningful. However, the updated version will go against this idea of people wanting their privacy while sharing content on the app. Especially when it comes to online stalking and harassment, it only worsens the situation by giving the perpetrators more control. If anything, the news has only led to people questioning this decision.

What is the actual reason for this change? The block feature is basically uniform across all of social media. Why change it? How does this make anything better on Twitter? Genuinely cannot figure out the logic behind this pic.twitter.com/JcOf1j1URd

Elon Musk removing the BLOCK feature from TWITTER? pic.twitter.com/P29wrLDKjS
The block feature is now changing. Now, people who you've blocked can see what you post but can't respond to them. What the fuck???

“Hey Elon, did you make this block feature request because one of our engineers told you that you’re the most blocked person on your own app?”

The only reason Elon is deleting the block feature on Twitter is that he hates the fact he's the most blocked person here.

Malignant narcissists like Musk can't cope with that kind of rejection.
