On Thursday, Visakhapatnam gas leak caused by a chemical plant took the lives of ten people with several being hospitalised.
There was a major gas leak in Visakhapatnam at LG polymers chemical plant at around 2.30 am on Thursday. The leak has caused the death of ten people including a child and the evacuation process is still in progress. The villagers were rushed to the nearest hospital after complaints of vomiting, headache and breathing problem was reported. PM Modi held a meeting with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to discuss the situation of the Visakhapatnam gas leak. Transport has been stopped in the areas of the gas leak with trains going to Visakhapatnam being diverted. People have also complained about throat, skin and toxic infection. Videos and images of the aftermath of the incident circulated on the internet. ANI quoted Visakhapatnam City Police Commissioner RK Meena as saying, “The gas has been neutralized. NDRF team has reached the spot. Maximum impact of the gas leak was in the 1-1.5 km radius but the smell spread up to 2-2.5 km. Around 100-120 people have been shifted to the hospital.”
