POV: 7 moments that made me feel proud of being a BTS Army!

Whether you’re into K-pop or not, BTS Army is a fandom that is known to the entire world and for all the right reasons!

BTS Army, a term that started as a fandom, became a force to be reckoned with over the years! As a BTS Army myself, it all started with loving their music and the message BTS as a group wants to give its fans. But as time went by I not only fell deeply in love with what they stood for as a team but also who they were as people. Coming all the way from Korea, they made a name for themselves in a world where people who couldn’t speak English weren’t given the best of treatment. They proved that wrong and how! They became an inspiration for their fans around the world and I don’t just throw ‘inspiration’ as a word around casually. 

They actually used their platform in a way that encouraged an entire generation to do better and show the world what we, as a community, are capable of! Be it protecting BTS from hate online, or standing up for the right causes and making this world a better place to live in one day at a time or prove that we’re not just fan girls screaming on the streets, we’re just as talented and have so much to offer the world, there’s a lot that we’ve done over the years for it to be pivotal moments in pop culture! July 9 is officially celebrated as ‘BTS Army Day’ as back in 2013 this was the day that BTS officially announced their fandom’s name to be ‘Army’ and of course the rest is history!

Here’s when being a BTS Army felt like a phenomenon and not just any other regular fandom!

When Armys fought misinformation online during the recent India-Pakistan war

Amidst all the misinformation from both sides during Operation Sindoor and its aftermath, it became almost impossible to figure out what's real and what’s fake. Hence BTS Armys took it upon themselves to eradicate any misinformation that had been circulating on social media. This helped lessen the chaos that was already being fueled on social media and the fandom was also featured on the news for the same.

When they protected BTS’ safety at airports with the Purple Ribbon Project

With the Purple Ribbon Project in 2018, they turned their focus towards BTS themselves, aiming to provide a safer environment for them at airports. Often the band touching down in a new city or country brings with it scenes of chaos, fans mobbing them as they try to make their way to the exits. Armys took it upon themselves to try and change that. Those at airports would create a new path for the group with purple ribbons with the aim of them being able to walk through unbothered.

When they made songs for BTS in return on their debut anniversary

To return the gratitude and love that we have for BTS, Armys have often made songs for BTS which feature amazing voices from around the world! BTS members themselves have also listened to and appreciated many such songs being put out for them. Rarely do we see a fandom release a song for the artist that they love when it is usually just the opposite.

When they give out free photocards and sometimes even albums at every single live-viewing or physical concert 

BTS Army is a community often promoting being kind to one another without expecting much in return. I have often experienced this in person. Every single time that I have gone for a live viewing of a concert, I have never come back empty handed. From freebies like photocards, posters to some Armys even distributing albums, there have been a plethora of times when I have come back with a full heart. Even though we’re strangers, the fact that we love the same artists holds such a deep meaning in our hearts that it's more than enough to trust one another on it!

When they participated in environmental causes and planted trees

BTS Armys have organized numerous tree-planting initiatives worldwide to honor BTS and promote environmental awareness. In India, in the Delhi NCR region, Armys organized two tree-planting projects, contributing to the global total of 44,508 trees. The Philippines, South Korea and Indonesia joined the initiative as well!

When BTS donated to the Black Lives Matter cause and Armys were able to collect enough and match that price to donate to the cause as well

In June 2020, BTS and their label Big Hit Entertainment donated 1 million dollars to the Black Lives Matter and Armys also managed to match the same amount and donate to the cause. It was one of the first instances where us as a fandom were taken a lot more seriously on a global scale.

When we’re able to be BTS’ biggest voice by bringing their music to the world 

If it wasn’t for us streaming their music and breaking records every single month, the world wouldn’t know about these 7 boys from Korea who are more than gifted when it comes to music. Together as a community we have made a reality that most artists can only dream of and it is crazy to see how over these 10 years as we become bigger and better each year, the core of who we are still remains the same!

So here's to all my fellow BTS Armys, may we continue to be a fandom that's recognized globally for contributing to the world in a positive way!
