On days when BTS couldn’t reach me through their words, I found comfort in their lyrics and here’s hoping it brings you some solace too!
Along with being absolutely stunning performers on stage who can ace the most complicated choreographies, BTS is also popularly known for its well thought out lyrics. Each and every line that comes straight from the member’s heart has a story to tell and a message to pass on to their fans to hold on too. One of the first things I was curious about as a fan was what the lyrics were trying to convey to me in Korean and the more I dig deeper, the more interesting it got. Some of the metaphors that they use to say the simplest things have so much depth and always leaves you wondering how a human brain can even come up with songs like these! Their lyrics touch upon topics like mental health, starting on a clean slate when things don’t feel right, promises to each other that go way back, yearning for spring after a cold winter and of course, falling in love, truly, deeply and madly!
Through these songs, the relationship between BTS and their fans has only grown stronger over the years! I have found myself finding solace in these songs on days when I’ve felt like everything around me is falling apart. The feeling of hearing their voices through my earphones and having them say the nicest things to me, comfort me and instill a sense of ‘future’s going to be okay’ is something that will always make me feel secure.

Magic Shop
Magic Shop is one that tops this list because it not only describes what I feel for BTS to the T, but also creates a safe space for me to go to quite literally! The lyrics talk about building a door inside your heart called Magic Shop and to go visit it every time you feel anxious or scared about life. Inside this Magic Shop, will be BTS waiting to comfort their fans in whatever way possible! The song is a beautiful blend of all of their voices and something that I listen to on loop especially in the month of June.
Jamais Vu
The phrase Jamais Vu comes from the psychological phenomenon for when someone is doing something they’re familiar with, but it seems foreign to them. This is the opposite of Déjà Vu. A lot of BTS’ storylines in their music videos are built on similar lines and this track in particular talks about how even though BTS loves performing, they often find themselves lost and unrecognizable amongst all the chaos of being a K-pop idol. It is another track with solid vocals that gives me goosebumps each time I listen to it.
Butterfly
The lyrics express the fear of losing someone through the simile of a butterfly. The butterfly could be interpreted as representing the ephemerality of time that risks being lost at a moment’s notice. My favorite lyric from the song goes something like “Will you stay by my side?/ Will you promise me?/ If I let go of your hand, you might fly away and break, I’m scared.” As someone who is also constantly anxious about losing her loved ones, this one hits too close to home.
Spring Day
Spring Day is a promise from BTS to armies that after the coldest winter passes, there will come a beautiful spring day when all of us will reunite together. Given that they just came back from the military, you best believe that this song was played by armies from around the world simply because it gave us hope and fit the situation!
Just One Day
This is a B-track from their 2014 album ‘Skool Luv Affair’ that talks about what each member would do if they could have just one day with the one that they love. The music video and the song is super sweet and catchy and instantly acts as a mood booster for when I feel blue!
Miss Right
Miss Right is a song I’d love all 7 BTS members to serenade me with! It is everything a girl wants to hear from a man and I perpetually blush when I listen to it!
Black Swan
Black Swan talks about the pain that grows inside you when you become distant from your passion. Oftentimes I see myself turning to this song when I reach a burnout at work or I just don’t know what the future holds for me career wise!
ON
ON is a declaration from BTS that they’re go getters and they’re ready to face any challenge that comes their way! One of the lyrics says ‘bring the pain on’ and that honestly gives me so much strength when life throws curveballs at me. It teaches me to face things head on.
Epilogue: Young Forever
From their ‘Most Beautiful Moment in Life: Young Forever’ album, this track talks about how they will keep running towards achieving their dreams. The song holds a significant meaning in the BTS world especially when Armies surprised the band by singing this song at a Wembley Stadium during their concert.
Life Goes On
Made during the pandemic, Life Goes On is a song about exactly what the title suggests. As the world came to a standstill, our lives still went on in one way or another! There’s a line in the song that says while the world has changed, thankfully between you and me nothing has, and that always feels like a warm hug when I listen to it!
Mikrokosmos
Stemming from a Greek philosophy, Mikrokosmos means to make a world of your own. The song radiates positivity and happiness, and it only leaves me feeling good on the inside. Given that there was an entire concert theme based just on this song in 2021, I’d love to hear it in person when I attend a BTS concert someday too!
Home
The song describes how BTS fans feel like home to the members of the band and honestly, I see home in them too!
Take Two
Take Two suggests BTS moving onto their second chapter after their first decade-long journey as artists. The first line itself asks ‘Will you stay with me?’ It is the group’s way of asking its fans to wait for them as they plan bigger and better things in the future.
