When Life Gives You Tangerines
When Life Gives You Tangerines portrays the story of Gwan-Sik and Ae-Sun and how they navigate the major highs and lows of life. They fall deeply in love and eventually have a family of their own. The series beautifully highlights various aspects of life and focuses on different human relationships. There’s a lot that you will resonate with in the story especially when it comes to the parental arc. It makes you deal with feelings you aren’t ready to deal with but in a very poetic manner. You will guaranteed be crying your eyes out in every single episode, so you’ve been warned!
Thirty-Nine
This one’s for the girlies! Thirty-Nine is about three women navigating their love life at the end of their thirties until a tragic news completely changes their lives upside down. The series will not just make you weep but also run to your best friend and give her a tight hug!
Hospital Playlist
There’s no way a medical drama wouldn’t make you cry! When the doctors at Yulje medical center move heaven and hell to save their patients, even the toughest of people will be shedding tears while binging this soup for the soul series! If nothing else, this will make you emotional for the bond between the doctors and how they keep their love for music alive even amidst a busy lifestyle.
Twenty-Five Twenty-One
Twenty-Five Twenty-One is a brutal but much needed reminder that not everyone you love is meant to be with you forever! Baek Ye-Jin and Naa He-Do loved each other deeply but had very different outlooks on life and just like them, this bitter reality of life is true for a lot of us. While people run away from K-dramas that have a sad ending, I believe that there’s a certain fixation in the pain that lures you into this world and makes you want to watch it even though you know it’ll break your heart!
Good Bad Mother
A mother who has gone through enough and more tragedies in life, and a son who was trained to study hard and have a better life than her, get a second chance at redeeming their relationship. The series portrays the complexities of motherhood and has a rather engaging revenge arc as well. Lee Do-Hyun’s performance is sure to make anyone’s heart melt; it makes you want to run and give him a hug!
Our Blues
Our Blues consists of various stories focusing on different problems that we suffer in the modern day. From mental health issues, having a child out of wedlock to the fear of losing a parent and so much more, the ensemble cast weaves together melancholic stories for those who could be in similar situations in their lives!
Hi, Bye Mama
Hi, Bye Mama is a fantasy comedy-drama centered on a mother who died in a tragic accident years ago but is given the gift of being human again. However, her husband is now remarried. From the heartwarming mother-daughter relationship between Cha Yu Ri and Cho Seo Woo to Yu Ri’s tearful reunion with Cho Gang Hwa, Hi, Bye Mama is sure to tug at your heartstrings and make you empty a tissue box in one go!
Daily Dose of Sunshine
Daily Dose of Sunshine was probably the first time mental health was portrayed in its true sense in a K-drama. Each episode deals with a new mental health issue and the series overall covers topics like schizophrenia, eating disorders, anxiety and depression. But the story doesn’t just touch upon it briefly, it deep dives into what the patient really goes through, the treatment and how it affects not just their families but the hospital staff too. It’s a crier from the first frame till the last for sure!
