New Update
When The Stars Gossip

Starring Gong Hyo-Jin and Lee Min-Ho, When The Stars Gossip revolves around an astronaut and space tourist falling in love. Here’s every thought about the show that’s constantly consumed my mind!

Directed by Park Shin-Woo, ‘When The Stars Gossip’ is definitely something we haven’t seen in the K-drama world before. As much as I’m well aware that K-dramas love exploring new career fields to keep it fresh, watching two people fall in love, in space, literally amongst the stars, was not how I expected 2025 to start! I had my preconceived notions about the series because I haven’t seen any of Lee Min-Ho’s work apart from Inheritors (Please don’t kill me, I was living under a rock!) and hadn’t heard of Gong Hyo-Jin up until now.

So it wasn’t a K-drama I was initially attracted to. But as boredom got the best of me on a Sunday evening, I binged the first two episodes of the show and I was massively impressed by how well it was all put together. I went from not wanting to start it to waiting for the next two episodes all week, and now that I’m four episodes in, I can safely say that I’m fully invested into this show. When The Stars Gossip has a bit of everything and that’s the kind of K-dramas I have been attracted to lately. It has romance, self discovery, it constantly keeps me on the edge of my seat with its new arcs and characters, and it has the perfect enemies to lovers arc.

Here’s what the episodes so far had me wondering!

They had sex in the first episode; are we sure this is a K-drama?!

In a K-drama, the leads are known to hold hands probably in the fifth episode, followed by a peck on the lips probably around the eighth. I was taken aback (in a good way, of course) to see both leads having sex with their significant others in the first episode itself. As much as I love the old school romance K-dramas bank on, they shy away from portraying the hook up culture which is quite prominent in Korea just like many other countries. So to see that for once makes the characters a bit more relatable to us.

The plot twists have a strong grip over me

Would you believe me if I told you that Lee Min-Ho performed a heart surgery on a mouse and I was fully invested in it? Sounds crazy, right? As bizarre as some things are, because they’re so interesting at the moment, I cannot help but root for them. Let’s take the latest episode for example - my heart was in my mouth the whole time Commander Eve Kim was spacewalking and then eventually had to stay in one position when her glove was penetrated by the solar panel. Each episode, so far, has either ended on a cliff hanger making me want more or suddenly brought in a plot twist that I didn’t see coming which is what makes it so fun to watch!

It’s going to take me a while to get used to Lee Min-Ho and Gong Hyo-Jin’s chemistry

Their characters individually are well-written and have a lot of depth, but as the two are growing close in the story, I’m going to take some getting used to just as they themselves are. It’s certainly an odd pairing I didn’t see coming and as the romance isn’t the quintessential K-drama romance, it will take me some time to warm up to them.

The impeccable cinematography and CGI makes me feel like they’re actually in space

The makers have done a phenomenal job with the CGI to the point where it feels too true to be fake. As someone who has only imagined what outer space would look like in my head, this K-drama's portrayal of it comes very close to my imagination which has only intrigued the curiosity in me. I’m constantly pausing and researching about what some of the astronomical terms mean and what it’s like for astronauts to really reside in space for months together.

I also love the angle that they're exploring with trying to solve humanly problems in space. For instance, the whole bit about conducting IVF in space so that any deformities in the sperm would be solved in zero gravity is something I found so intriguing. It's a good balance of science blending into romance!

Given that most of the show is based in one location, it still weaves all the characters seamlessly

So far, a majority of the series is based in space and the characters are floating around in a spaceship. But that doesn’t mean the characters who are creating chaos on Earth get any less screen time. The communication between all the characters is well intact which seamlessly takes the story forward in terms of the characters outsmarting one another.

I did not expect to fall for Lee Min-Ho so hard. I finally understand why people are so obsessed with him

Lee Min-Ho has returned to the romance genre after more than 10 years and he is only making us all swoon over him. It’s the ‘loyal guy who will do anything for the girl he loves’ arc that’s really enhancing his sex appeal in this show. That or maybe it’s the sweatshirts with pulled up sleeves. Regardless, let this be my apology to him for not paying attention sooner. He is fully worth the hype in the K-drama fandom!

An intro so good, it makes it so difficult for me to press skip

K-dramas often have spectacular intros that are almost too difficult to skip and When The Stars Gossip isn’t any different. The animation of the astronauts doing mundane things like working out, cleaning or watching TV in space is beautifully set against the intro music for the show.

This one is so talked about on social media right now; here's proof!
