The filmmaker is particulary taken aback by Collective Artists' founder Vijay Subramaniam helming the project as his company represents artists, writers, and directors.

A new controversy has erupted in the entertainment industry following Collective Artists Network's unveiling of the poster for their 'AI-made' film, Chiranjeevi Hanuman - The Eternal. Filmmakers Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap expressed their disappointment on social media, denouncing the project and its promotion of AI's excessive use in the process of filmmaking. This incident has reignited a long-standing discussion, which got aggravated recently by the social media controversy around the AI-altered climax of the Tamil version of Aanand L. Rai's Raanjhanaa.

Known for his unfiltered take on issues, Kashyap expressed his frustration on the project, and explained he is especially taken aback by the Founder and Group CEO of Collective Artists NetworkVijay Subramaniam, and the fact that his agency ‘That represents artists, writers, and directors, is now producing a film made by AI’.

He wrote ,“Congratulations @vijaysubramaniam84. Here is the man heading the @lifeatcollectiveartistsnetwork that represents artists, writers, and directors, now producing a film made by AI. So much for looking after and representing the interests of creators. End of the day, all these agencies are only interested in making money off you, and since they choose turkeys after turkeys for you and you’re not making enough for them, they are going all AI."

He added, “Any actor or anyone who calls themselves artists and has a spine will be and should be either questioning him or leaving the agency since he has proved that he thinks you’re no match for his AI performance. This right here is the future for the spineless and cowardly so-called artists in the Hindi Film industry. Well done, Vijay Subramaniam. Shame is not enough on you. You should be in the gutter."

The filmmaker continued in the comments, “By all means, use AI, if you want to. Nobody can stop AI from taking over every field and the world. My grouse and my genuine grouse is with my friend Vijay Subramaniam, because he is the CEO of KWAN Collective."

Earlier, Vikramaditya Motwane had re-shared the announcement post of the film in his Instagram stories and wrote, "And so it begins... Who TF needs writers and directors when it's 'Made in AI'?"

On Tuesday, Abundantia Entertainment and Collective Media Network’s Historyverse announced its AI-generated, ‘Made-In-AI’ and ‘Made in India’ film, based on the life of Lord Hanuman. The movie is set to hit the theatres on Hanuman Jayanti, 2026.

Following the announcement, Vijay Subramaniam shared that their approach is 'Rooted in authenticity and cultural stewardship, ensuring complete transparency about the role of AI in the creative process.

His full press statement read- “At Collective, we live where culture, creators, and technology converge. With this film, we have the extraordinary opportunity to reimagine cultural storytelling for an audience that cherishes both tradition and innovation. Our approach is rooted in authenticity and cultural stewardship, ensuring complete transparency about the role of AI in the creative process. We are thrilled to partner with Vikram Malhotra, Founder & CEO, Abundantia Entertainment and the incredible team at Abundantia Entertainment on this landmark project, combining our shared passion for storytelling with next-generation tools to bring this epic to life like never before.”

The announcement of a fully AI-generated film has sparked a significant backlash from veteran filmmakers and their criticism highlights a growing industry fear that AI-powered projects could threaten the integrity and interests of a filmmaker's craft and raises serious questions about the future of artistry in Bollywood.
