Today, diseases are spreading all around the world at a high speed but now days getting diagnosed by Cancer has become as normal as getting a viral fever. Anybody can get it and so have our Bollywood celebrities who are suffering from cancer. Proud of them to fight this battle with great courage. 

Sonali Bendre, Manisha Koirala, Rakesh Roshan, Tahira Kashyap, are a few celebrities who got diagnosed with Cancer, and their stories of fighting the battle against life-threatening condition are more inspiring and powerful than the disease.

On World Cancer Day, the theme ‘I Am and I Will’ completes three years, bringing the world together in order to fight the disease raising their voice and these celebrities stand true to this slogan. There has always been immense support by the entire Bollywood industry and other well-known influencers to the victims of cancer.

Some of the actors and actresses have really inspired us with their life-threatening stories against cancer.

Sonali Bendre

Actor Sonali Bendre was diagnosed with ‘high-grade’ cancer and she is undergoing treatment in the US but that never stopped her from shaping up her digital book club SBC or anything. We salute her courage and love how gracefully she embraced the disease and share her journey with a smile on her face.

Sometimes, when you least expect it, life throws you a curveball. I have recently been diagnosed with a high grade cancer that has metastised, which we frankly did not see coming. A niggling pain led to some tests, which led to this unexpected diagnosis. My family and close friends have rallied around me, providing the best support system that anyone can ask for. I am very blessed and thankful for each of them. There is no better way to tackle this, than to take swift and immediate action. And so, as advised by my doctors, I am currently undergoing a course of treatment in New York. We remain optimistic and I am determined to fight every step of the way. What has helped has been the immense outpouring of love and support I’ve received over the past few days, for which I am very grateful. I’m taking this battle head on, knowing I have the strength of my family and friends behind me.

In the words of my favourite author Isabel Allende, “We don't even know how strong we are until we are forced to bring that hidden strength forward. In times of tragedy, of war, of necessity, people do amazing things. The human capacity for survival and renewal is awesome.” The outpouring of love I’ve received in the last few days has been so overwhelming… and I’m especially grateful to those of you who shared stories of your experiences in dealing with cancer, whether it was your own or of loved ones. Your stories have given me an extra dosage of strength and courage, and more importantly, the knowledge that I’m not alone. Each day comes with its own challenges and victories and so for now, I’m taking this #OneDayAtATime. The only thing I’m trying to be consistent about is maintaining a positive outlook… literally #SwitchOnTheSunshine – it’s my way of dealing with this. Sharing my journey is also part of this process… I can only hope it reminds you that all is not lost and that someone, somewhere understands what you’re going through. ?? Fear, to a great extent, is born of a story we tell ourselves, and so I chose to tell myself a different story from the one women are told. I decided I was safe. I was strong. I was brave. Nothing could vanquish me.” – Cheryl Strayed, Wild. Over the past couple of months, I have had good days and bad ones. There have been days when I’ve been so exhausted and in so much pain that even lifting a finger hurt. I feel like sometimes it’s a cycle… one that starts off with physical pain and leads to mental and emotional pain. The bad days have been many… Post chemo, post-surgery and the like… where even just laughing hurts. Sometimes it felt like it took everything I’ve had to push past it… a minute to minute battle with myself. I got through it knowing that even though I was fighting a long drawn out, draining battle… it was one that was worth the fight. It’s important to remember that we’re allowed to have those bad days. Forcing yourself to be happy and cheerful all the time serves no purpose. Who are we being fake and putting on an act for? I allowed myself to cry, to feel the pain, to indulge in self-pity… for a short while. Only you know what you’re going through and it is fine to accept it. Emotions aren’t wrong. Feeling negative emotions isn’t wrong. But after a point, identify it, recognize it and refuse to let it control your life. It takes an immense amount of self-care to get out of that zone. Sleep always helps, or having my favourite smoothie after chemo, or just talking to my son. For now, as my treatment continues… my visual focus remains to just get better and get back home. World Cancer Day… who would have thought it would become such a thing… but it has! And just the mere mention of the C word brings dread in the hearts of anyone who hears it. We fear it so much that we’d rather not talk about it… which is why it’s important to have a day where we pull out the band aid and help us deal with this disease. I was scared too, but soon realised that burying my head in the sand was not the way to deal with this. And so… with the little experience I have had, I urge you all to take the time to understand it. There's more to cancer than being emotional or weak or even being called a fighter or a survivor. It requires you to study it, find out what works for you and to be diligent about your treatment. It requires days of strongly believing in oneself, of knowing that tomorrow will be better than today. It is not a fight against negative thoughts. It's taking a stand to not give in, no matter what. Most importantly, it is about living every day, and not just surviving. Just taking it #OneDayAtATime makes it easier to #SwitchOnTheSunshine. #WorldCancerDay

Irrfan Khan, who was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Tumor last year, has been battling the disease like a superhero. We wish him all the love and support and hope to see him back on the silver screen with a bang.

Actor Ayushmann Khurrana’s wife who has been diagnosed by breast cancer has been applauded for her high spirits and courage and how she slayed the ramp at Lakme fashion week 2019. We love her confidence and attitude.

An opportunity to give competition to the Kardashians just went wasted! A week back I mentioned about ‘my badge of honour’ that I was going to receive. And I did and am happy to share about it with the intention of it being received with love. As that’s the only reason I am posting it. Love for self and gratitude for the universe. The picture might be disturbing for some, but these drains have become my dumbells for a few days. I was detected with DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) in my right breast with high grade malignant cells. Simply put stage 0 cancer/ pre-cancerous stage, with cancer cells multiplying in a contained area. The result I have become a half Indian version of Angelina Jolie (since only one breast was involved)! I told my doctor now is the time to give some competition to the Kardashians since Pamela is passé. But no one listened to me, so now I have a portion of my back tissue in my breast. Perhaps now I can do chin-ups with my breasts! Jokes apart, this obstacle has given me a new definition of life. Respect it’s unpredictability and have the faith and courage to be the hero of your own drama of life. The invincible human spirit is God like, gives you the courage to endure and the will to revive. There is nothing that human spirit can’t do. Also I want women of all ages to be aware. I am 35, and I was returned twice over from a mammogram. If any symptoms come up, think of it as a protective force and get yourselves examined. Also we are so obsessed with boobs. This mastectomy has left me with even more self love! Big, small, left or right inclined , gravity pulling or defying, or even none, each breast the presence or lack of it has a story to tell. Mine has made me a 2.0 version of myself! Manisha Koirala

Manisha Koirala was in Kathmandu when she was detected with Ovarian Cancer. She was in complete disbelief and but then she geared up for her fight. Post her treatment, she is back with a bang. Manisha has inspired to many cancer patients as she delivers inspiring speeches at different platforms. She has also released a memoir ‘Healed’.

Rakesh Roshan

Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan has revealed that his father Rakesh Roshan is battling cancer. Actor-filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, 69, has been diagnosed with early stage of squamous cell carcinoma of the throat.

Soon after Hrithik broke the news on social media, wishes came in from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and members of the film fraternity.

Lisa Ray

A decade ago, Lisa Ray was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma cancer and she defeated the dreadful ‘C’ and was declared cancer-free in a year after which there was no stopping her. She is back with her role in the latest web series, Four More Shots Please!

Via @bombaytimes: ‘Lisa narrated the tough and, at times, frustrating journey they had to undertake, “We hired an agency to help, had an unsuccessful attempt in Mexico, and spent a lot of money, emotional resources and sleepless nights. But as a cancer survivor, I firmly believe in overcoming the odds. And with my husband and a few close friends’ support, we hoped for the best. Finally, we settled on Georgia, where the surrogacy process is legal, transparent, regulated and overall beneficial for both sides. We relocated to Tbilisi for a few months for the birth.” The actress believes that she has successfully buried her old views that having kids would slow her down. Talking about her husband’s role in their journey, she said, “My husband and I are becoming parents in our mid-40s, which is also unconventional, but the right time for us. Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj was diagnosed with a non-malignant tumor of the lungs but further tests showed he had cancer and he is was undergoing chemotherapy at the Cancer Research Institute in Boston. He has been cured but we salute his journey.
