While many companies have been talking about using drones to deliver items, it seems Zomato has finally managed to achieve the feat.
CEO of Zomato, Mr Deepinder Goyal announced it on twitter, saying they successfully tested a drone in a 5-km range, which delivered food in 10 minutes at 80 kmph. Check it out:
We successfully tested a hybrid drone ?️ – fusion of rotary wing and fixed wings on a single drone; covered 5 kms in 10 mins with a peak speed of 80 kmph; with a payload of 5kgs.

The technology is powered by ‘TechEagle’, a drone startup acquired by Zomato last year. Although the company says they’re abiding by all the laws, they still need Government permissions.
"A drone will pick up the food package from a restaurant hub (a dispatch station around a cluster of restaurants), and drop the package at a customer hub (a landing station close to dense communities), and come back to the dispatch site using a mix of different and appropriate flight modes" said Deepinder Goyal in the official blog.
Hopefully we’ll get food at lightining speed pretty soon!
