Whether it's a palm-fringed beach scene or a romantic picturesque one, Bollywood evoked a sense of passion and dreamy escapism by romanticizing the ocean in some of its movies!

Love starts where the ocean and the sky meet, at the horizon. Sure, according to some theory on the internet, the ocean and sky are lovers that meet at the horizon and as we go deeper into this, we realise that the ocean is the prettier one. Indian cinema which is known for its larger-than-life storytelling and extravagant visuals, used the ocean in its scenes so beautifully that it seemed like a character in itself altogether. From epic love stories to breathtaking adventures, the ocean has served as a powerful backdrop, igniting emotions and evoking pleasure. Be it the iconic song Do Lafzon Ki Hai from the movie The Great Gambler or the romance between Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol while Gerua plays in the background, we love a scene where the ocean played the role of cupid!

Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai

Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai is one of the cult classics that became popular for its soundtrack. The ocean throughout the movie played a catalyst in igniting the love between Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel. The romantic numbers in this movie are set against the backdrop of Mauritius' turquoise waters and palm-fringed beaches which made the movie much more beautiful to look at!

Jodhaa Akbar

Movies that use symbolism to portray love are one of the best examples of elite cinema. In Jodha Akbar, the romance and passion between Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is ignited when the vast salt desert meets the Arabian Sea, creating a breathtaking landscape that symbolises the grandeur and power of their love.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Jab Tak Hai Jaan is the story of the complexities of love, sacrifice, and destiny, Shah Rukh Khan's entry scene where he takes his bullet around Pangong Lake in Ladakh becomes a symbol of his undying love, reflecting the vastness of his emotions.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

While trekking, Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor stop at a beautiful lake in the landscapes of the Himalayas. The scene portrays the tranquility and charm of mountains creating a sense of romance and introspection between them.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

ZNMD is a story of friendships, freedom, self-discovery, and facing your fears. The movie manages to capture all as the characters take part in scuba diving in the pristine Mediterranean Sea that metaphorically captures the freedom, exhilaration, and transformative power of the ocean.

The Great Gambler

Music is a great way to communicate to your lover and singing while you explore the beautiful water bodies of Venice has to be at the top romance category. Do Lafzo Ki Hai became a way to confess love in the late 70s back when Amitabh Bachchan and Zeenat Aman were a hot topic in romance. The movie perfectly captured Venice and the essence of love that the couple shared in the song.

Dilwale

Every time we hear of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol together, our minds go back to DDLJ. Dilwale and its song Gerua shot in Iceland just gave us so many memories. Even though the duo came back for Gerua It felt like yesterday when we saw them in Suraj Hua Maddham.

Dear Zindagi

If the movie is shot in Goa, how can we not get multiple beach scenes? Bollywood once again did a fab job by using the ocean as a symbol to heal someone. The beach scene in Dear Zindagi where Shah Rukh Khan teaches Alia Bhatt to play Kabaddi with the sea was one of the most real scenes in the movie.
