Dil Dhadakne Do (2015) || The confused, vulnerable, but a sweetheart Kabir Mehra is a people’s favourite. He charms his way into our hearts, becoming our favourite character.Kabir Mehra, a loving son, a great brother and a doting lover stands at a diversion when he had to choose between carrying his family business forward or follow his dream of flying. Inspite of having to deal with his own set of conflicts, Kabir comes across as a happy maker trying to spread love and happiness all around. The way he is confused about his career, the way he supports his sister, the way he falls in love with Farah, the way he is always there to crack a joke, the way he cares for his family, and the way he screws up, all of these characteristics and imperfections make him so relatable and loveable! Kabir’s character is so beautifully written, and along with that Ranveer’s impeccable talent and Zoya’s flawless direction, falling in love with him is a compulsion. You want him as your son, brother, partner or friend – but you surely want him in your life. The thing about Kabir that actually won my heart was that he was one of the very few Indian male characters who isn’t afraid to show his emotions. He is a man who cries, who is sometimes weak, sometimes conflicted, his life is a ship of conflicts, yet there is innocence in his heart. Zoya’s Kabir captures perfectly the essence of the educated, urban man. His heart is at the right place, he’s feminist, he is sensitive and vulnerable, yet he finds it difficult to express what he is feeling. He screws up, but also knows the importance of apology. There is one particular scene, that basically won my heart. When Ayesha is told by their family that she can’t get a divorce and if she does she will be disowned, she is broken. She says okay and walks out, walks far away, till she finds a place where she can go and break down. Kabir follows her, and when he finds her, he just goes and stands next to her, quietly. He doesn’t hug her or hold her, no words are exchanged, but that was his way of showing Ayesha, that she is not alone. (Contd in comments) @zoieakhtar #ZoyaAkhtar @ranveersingh #ranveersingh
