Nagraj Manjule and Amitabh Bachchan's Jhund released in cinemas on March 4. Let’s see what the Janta has to say about the film!
Nagraj Manjule who also gave us the spectacular Sairat has brought us another amazing piece of storytelling, Jhund with none other than the living legend, Amitabh Bachchan. It's based on the life of Vijay Barse, a retired sports teacher who puts in immense effort to keep the children and young adults of the slum away from drugs and other malpractices. Instead, he makes them channel their energies into football and creates an NGO called Slum Soccer which allows children from the slums to form football teams and play against each other. It highlights how the kids of the slum live and go through these nitty-gritties of life.
It was such a delight to watch Amitabh Bachchan on the big screen after a while and see him portray such an important role and contribute to helping such a story reach the audience. The film is written and directed by the highly talented Nagraj Manjule and is produced by T-Series and Tandav Film. The music is given by the evergreen Ajay- Atul. It also has the dynamic Sairat duo Akshay Thosar and Rinku Rajguru lighting up the screen with their brilliance once again. And of course all the new talent in this film, Ankush Gedam, Babu Kshatriya, Jerico Robert, Raziya Kazi, Kartik Uikey, Sayli Patil, Allen Patrick, to name a few, playing crucial characters in the movie.
Let's see what the Janta has to say about Jhund!

is the bestest director in the country - he makes you cry, cheer, feel the pain, the euphoria and most importantly he makes you think of two Indias divided by a compound wall.
I didn't see any promos or trailers being promoted of the movie #Jhund but yet somehow my friend convinced me to watch it. And after lots of denial, I watched it and broooo kitni achi movie hai yaar.

He is a representation of so many of our brothers and sisters in desparate need of just a stable job and dignity.#jhund pic.twitter.com/T2M52l6qKI
I've played on the St John's school ground where the football matches have been shot.

I've celebrated Bhim Jayanti at RBI chowk every year exactly how they celebrate in the song 'Lafda Zala'.
I speak exactly in that Nagpuri tone.
So kindly allow me to be psyched about #Jhund pic.twitter.com/zpqlPaMcUv
Take a bow @Nagrajmanjule for showing the country’s biggest festival THE AMBEDKAR JAYANTI 💙 which was sidelined by mainstream for obvious reasons.#Jhund must watch. 🎬😍 pic.twitter.com/EVRejS2xj7

Loved #Jhund. It uses sports as a metaphor to deconstruct the larger themes without being didactic. Instead of showing people from slums in a constant state of despair, it captures the human side with music, celebration, melancholy and everyday rhythm of existence. (1/n)

The humiliation that she and her father has has to go through, to obtain an identity proof is what many tribal girls can relate. #Jhund @Nagrajmanjule pic.twitter.com/i2PF72rqKT

Overheard a woman in the theatre calling her father excitedly during the interval of #Jhund to tell him that Bhim Jayanti was being shown on the big screen.

What a joy it is to watch one of our own tell our stories
