Cannes 2025 Day 8 highlights

From Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, Neeraj Ghaywan, Karan Johar making their red carpet appearance to Eleanor The Great debuting at the festival, here’s how Day 8 looked at the 78th film festival.

The Cannes Film Festival 2025 has been running successfully and been walking towards its end soon but on the home front an extremely proud moment is here where the entire team of Homebound, Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, Vishal Jethwa, filmmaker Neeeraj Ghaywan and producer Karan Johar walked the red carpet. On another front, Scarlett Johansson’s directorial debut Eleanor The Great made its premiere while Aditi Rao Hydari was seen at Cannes yet again.

Homebound team takes the red carpet 

The team of Homebound hit the red carpet in full force. Ishaan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa made their Cannes red carpet debuts, while director Neeraj Ghaywan and producer Karan Johar returned to the festival. The film, also backed by Martin Scorsese, is India’s entry this year and will premiere on May 21 under the Un Certain Regard section.

Scarlett Johansson’s Eleanor The Great premieres to emotional applause

Johansson, stepping into the director’s chair for the first time, premiered her film Eleanor The Great under Un Certain Regard. The film stars June Squibb as a 90-year-old forming an unlikely bond with a 19-year-old played by Erin Kellyman in New York. It received a five-minute standing ovation, leaving Johansson and Squibb visibly emotional.

Aditi Rao Hydari returns to Cannes

Marking her fourth appearance at the festival, Aditi Rao Hydari is back at Cannes again this year, this time in partnership with BMW. She wore a striking red saree, complete with sindoor, turning heads with her look.

Jodie Foster stars in out-of-competition film A Private Life

Rebecca Zlotowski’s A Private Life premiered out of competition. It stars Jodie Foster as psychiatrist Lilian Steiner, who begins her own investigation into the suspicious death of a patient she believes was murdered.

Other screenings from May 20

Un Simple Accident by Jafar Panahi, Fuori by Mario Martone, Aisha Can’t Fly Away by Morad Mostafa, and Love Me Tender by Anna Aczenave Cambet were all screened at the festival.
