This playful moment made for a lighthearted addition to the glamour of the evening.

Kristen Stewart’s A Chronology of Water receives a standing ovation

Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut, A Chronology of Water, premiered under the Un Certain Regard section. Based on Lidia Yuknavitch’s memoir, the film explores themes of sexuality, identity, and transformation. Stewart, visibly emotional, basked in the film's resounding success, which was met with a standing ovation. Alongside, Babygirl fame Harris Dickinson, known for Triangle of Sadness, also premiered his directorial debut Urchin, a gritty coming-of-age tale set in London's underground punk scene.

Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson’s Die, My Love hits the screen

Die, My Love, based on the novel by Argentine writer Ariana Harwicz and directed by Lynne Ramsay, had its premiere at Cannes, drawing significant attention due to its dark and emotional premise. The film revolves around a new mother who spirals into postpartum depression and psychosis. Starring Robert Pattinson and Jennifer Lawrence, latter also being the producer of the film, this film has already made headlines after a fierce bidding war between distributors, with MUBI securing it for a record $23 million.

Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme steals the spotlight

Wes Anderson’s signature style was on full display in The Phoenician Scheme, a multi-starrer film that captivated the audience both on and off the red carpet. The star-studded cast added to the film’s charm, and the premiere was met with an enthusiastic 6-7 minute standing ovation. As always, Anderson’s meticulous attention to detail and whimsical storytelling shone brightly in this latest addition to his portfolio.

Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague pays tribute to french cinema to The Secret Agent special entrance at the red carpet

Richard Linklater’s Nouvelle Vague, which pays homage to the French New Wave and the legacy of Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless, premiered to great fanfare. The film, which reflects on the radical filmmaking techniques of the 1960s, brought together a talented cast who lit up the red carpet. The film also received a standing ovation after its screening. Meanwhile, Brazilian filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho brought The Secret Agent to the festival, with a thunderous entry at the red carpet paying homage to its Brazilian roots. This marked the latest contribution to red carpet moments, following Tom Cruise’s orchestra-led Mission Impossible premiere.

As always, the Cannes red carpet was the place to be for Hollywood’s finest, with Angelina Jolie, Natalie Portman, Quentin Tarantino and so many stars all making glamorous appearances. Musicians Bono and The Edge added their star power to the evening making their way down the iconic carpet.
