As expected, the 2026 Oscar nominations were dominated by Sinners with 16 nominations, while One Battle After Another followed closely with 13 nods. Here’s the full list of the 2026 Academy awards nominations!
The road to the 2026 Academy Awards is officially underway and it’s shaping up to be yet another competitive Oscar races in recent years. Leading the charge is Ryan Coogler's groundbreaking Sinners, which has emerged as the clear frontrunner with an all time record-breaking 16 nominations, including Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan and Best Director for Coogler as well as Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and more. No film has ever received this many in history! Close behind is the much expected Paul Thomas Anderson'sOne Battle After Another with 13 nominations, again including Best Actor for Leonardo DiCapirio and Best Director for Anderson while Hamnet,Frankenstein, Marty Supreme, and Sentimental Value have each secured nine to six nods, firmly placing them in this year’s awards conversation. With highly anticipated nods for Best Actor for Timothée Chalamet, Best Actress for Jessie Buckley, Best Director for Chloé Zhao, and Best Supporting Actor for Jacob Elordi and Stellan Skarsgård, most of the major categories played out largely as expected, with familiar names carrying forward momentum from the so far awards season. However, on the Indian front, the news is disappointing as Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound, considered a strong frontrunner for Best International Feature, is unfortunately out of the race, with The Secret Agent now emerging as the category leader.
The nominations were unveiled by Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman in a live announcement from the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater, covering 24 categories, including a major first. For the first time since Best Animated Feature was introduced in 2002, the Academy has added a new category this time for Best Casting, spotlighting a crucial yet often under-acknowledged aspect of filmmaking. Films like Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, and Sinners earned nominations in this newly minted category.

This year also marks a notable shift in how Oscar voting is monitored. The Academy has tightened voting rules, requiring members to confirm that they’ve watched all nominated films in a category - tracked via the Academy Screening Room app or verified through official screenings and festivals. As anticipation builds, all eyes now turn to March 15, when Conan O’Brien returns to host the 2026 Oscars, airing live on ABC and Hulu from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
