New Update
Abbott Elementary

The Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia cross-over episode is everything fans of both shows would have wanted and more.

Go birds! Television is so back thanks to Quinta Brunson and Rob McElhenney, who decided to listen to their fans and collaborate for a crossover that managed to be everything fans would have expected. With a bunch of almost mishaps, spot-on pairings, callbacks and easter eggs, the Abbott Elementary and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover managed to hit the bullseye.

The episode saw The Gang walk into Abbott as part of what the staff imagined it to be a volunteer program to help out with the school’s needs. While the staff is excited to welcome their new ‘friends’, they were there to complete their mandated community service hours instead. The idea of imagining The Gang at a school seems like a successful episode plot in itself. It’s like putting a bunch of fixers with people who have solutions for every problem they face. By giving us the PG version of this two-part crossover, the episode definitely managed to meet every fan's expectation.

It was chaotic and mysterious all at once right from the start. Every character brought out their own trait to the episode without making it look overwhelming. While Jenine found a smart substitute in Dee (Kaitlin Olson), who also happens to have attended University of Pennsylvania, Mac became the self-proclaimed VP for Ava (Janelle James) in order to get her to sign off on the community service. As expected, Frank (Danny DeVito) was being his ultra-vigilant, super controlling self as he tried to teach Gregory and Mr Johnson how to catch the raccoons, only to end up in the cage himself.

While every part of the episode was hilariously apt, watching Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph), Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) and Jacob (Chris Perfetti) identify that Charlie (Charlie Day) has trouble with reading and helping him out was the most wholesome moment of the episode. While he continued to hold his horses and denied having this problem, it was genuinely exciting to see him read a chapter out of the kids' book and be proud of himself. The only person who was missing from the camera was Dennis (Glenn Howerton), and considering how he decided to not be part of Abbott's documentary and only randomly appeared in the background, it would be interesting to see what he was up to when the second part of this crossover airs.

Here's how fans' reacted:

Part two of the crossover is expected to air in mid-2025 in the 17th season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
