Satya - Jigra

Satya is the cold-blooded, angry young woman who internalizes pain only to let it out as an act of saving rather than wreaking havoc on the world at large. She is the hero we all need as her strength lies in her quiet resilience, and her moral ambiguity finds some rationality. She is just a sister saving her brother for the film, but for the world, she is much more!

Dhanush, Ayush and Pratik- Madgaon Express

A coming-of-age friendship film inspired by the likes of Dil Chahta Hai ends up giving us characters like Dhanush, Ayush and Pratik that are as real as much as they are aspirational, just like their friendship. While Pratik's dilemma of being a mama's boy and Ayush's tryst with loneliness become relatable tropes, it is Dhanush's insecurity about feeling less than his friends that brings out the harsh reality of childhood friends growing up!

Manju Mai - Laapataa Ladies

In a world full of Phool, Jaya, Deepak, and every character who leaves a lasting impression, Manju Mai stands out as a symbol of defiance against societal norms. She gives a voice to the silenced, and her journey reminds us of the power of sisterhood and the determination to reclaim one's identity!

Jass - The Buckingham Murders

Even though Kareena Kapoor Khan's unapologetic women's era shines with Jasmine in Crew, it is with Jass and her unwavering dedication to justice, even when faced with personal grief and ethical dilemmas in The Buckingham Murders, that became the year's highlight. Jass's quiet strength, vulnerability, empathy for victims, and relentless pursuit of justice remind us of the struggle between duty and humanity!

Amar Singh Chamkila - Chamkila

Today, when Diljit Dosanjh, in his concert, utilises his music and art to express his opinions, it reminds us of Chamkila, whose raw, unfiltered voice echoes long after the screen fades, embodying the spirit of rebellion and artistry. His music and life became much more than his; they became a testament to the power of expression in oppressive times.

Vaishali - Bhakshak

Bhakshak is a simple yet powerful film that highlights the strength we hold within, no matter how small our actions are, mainly because Vaishali’s courage in confronting the unimaginable shows that quiet heroes exist in everyday life. Despite her own struggles, her unwavering fight to protect young, abused girls is a potent reminder that we can all make a difference, one step at a time.

Nella Awasthi - CTRL

This might be the year Ananya Pandey hit it right with her projects, as Nella’s struggle with identity and control in a tech-dominated world is one we deeply relate to today. This content creator paints a horrific reality of our addictive consumer behaviour that will only end in our doom, teaching us to value the importance of retaining humanity in an increasingly digitized existence!

Bittu - Munjya

Even though the ghost Munjya is the film's highlight, it is Bittu's charming innocence, mature understanding and courageous curiosity that act as a necessary contrast to Munjya's man-child behaviour, bringing forth the film's point

Jana and Rudra Bhaiya - Stree 2

It is incredibly tough to choose one character we love from the realm of Stree 2, a film where every character leaves you with something, yet Jana and Rudra Bhaiya end up stealing the limelight for us. While Jana grows up and becomes more than just a ghost's play toy, Rudra Bhaiya always enlightens without leaving his humorous side!

Fani - Kill

Despite his raw intensity and relentless determination for vengeance, Fani’s emotional struggle with revenge adds vulnerability. It draws us into his pain and desire for justice as he reveals a more profound humanity beneath the fury. His fierce resolve to protect those he loves, regardless of cost, makes him both fearsome and admirable. He masterfully embodies the line between hero and antihero, keeping us captivated!

Prem Singh - Sector 36

Prem Singh could be the ultimate poster image for the character we love to hate. His criminally afflicted and twisted mind, extending from his childhood trauma of being abused, lends to the larger debate of class indifference in our society about the invisibility of those human beings who lie below the line anybody gives a shit about!

Mira and Anila - Girls Will Be Girls

Mira and Anila navigating their desires, insecurities, societal expectations, and challening traditional gender roles gave us a relatable and insightful look into a mother and a daughter relationship which is complex and flawed, capturing the tension and tenderness between them. Their emotional push-and-pull, the shifting power dynamics, and moments of vulnerability make it a compelling and layered exploration of identity, love, and personal rebellion.

Arjun - I Want to Talk

Arjun’s quiet struggle to find his voice in a world that doesn’t listen speaks to our universal desire to be heard. He leaves us with the conviction that silence is never the answer.

Albert - Merry Christmas

Albert’s inner conflict wrapped in a charmingly mysterious bundle lies at the heart of Merry Christmas. He leaves us reflecting on love, loneliness, and the longing for meaningful connections during the most festive times!

Murlikant Petkar - Chandu Champion

Murlikant’s indomitable spirit in the face of overwhelming odds shines as a beacon of hope. His legacy of perseverance inspires us to face our limitations with courage.
