Hindi web series of 2024 that topped

Despite a somewhat lacklustre year for OTT in general where content felt more formulaic and forgettable, a handful of series stood out for their exceptional storytelling and unique approach.

As the year draws to a close, it's that time when wrap-ups and year-end summaries flood our screens, encapsulating the highs and lows of the past 12 months. In the realm of OTT content, while the platforms may not have had their strongest year compared to the previous one, there were still moments of brilliance. Though much of this year’s lineup was defined by middling binge-worthy shows, a few gems managed to break free from the usual churn and offer something more than just fleeting entertainment. These are the shows that not only captured our hearts but lingered long after their credits rolled.

In a landscape where new shows are released almost every month, it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of choices. From titles like Bandish Bandits Season 2, Murder in Mahim, Shekhar Home, Gyaara Gyaara, Life Hill Gayi, and CA Tribhuvan Mishra, many had promising starts but ultimately fell short of leaving a lasting impact. Yet, amidst these, some series held onto their vision and delivered highly crafted narratives, elevating them to the top of this year’s OTT offerings. These are the shows that rose above the noise and gave us more than just entertainment—they gave us moments to reflect on, characters to root for, and stories that stayed with us.

Here are our top 10 and why we ended up loving them!

Raat Jawaan Hai- SonyLIV

This light-hearted, feel-good buddy comedy about modern-day parenting was among the most admirable and earnest surprise packages we received this year—we didn't even know we needed it! It was a breath of fresh air packaged in a bundle of emotions that hit right.

Freedom At Midnight- SonyLIV

Packing history as an existing era of bureaucratic endeavours where human beings, not politicians, were busy building a nation and giving its identity, this series, regarded as India's "The Crown", became the lens we needed to learn to look at patriotism.

Maamla Legal Hai- Netflix

It is a courtroom sitcom that puts comedy in justice only to showcase the state of our country's judicial system and draw a parallel between the true meaning of law and justice, making this laughter riot our ultimate go-back for a refreshing watch.

Killer Soup- Netflix

This experimental series reinvented the whole genre of dark thriller comedy only to include a poetic-literature aesthetic to a realistic spine-chilling news story. It almost became India's answer to the West's critically acclaimed "The White Lotus"

Kota Factory 3- Netflix

If a farewell to a series, that has been loved since its inception and has maintained its journey throughout, is anything like the third season of Kota Factory, then it's all worth it. It was a tearful yet hopeful goodbye that felt personal to everyone in many ways!

IC 814- Netflix

Even though it became a controversy, this series proves that in a time when bias seeps into filmmakinga and turns it into a propaganda debate, there could be a neutral way of presenting history onscreen using only facts and leaving the audience to form their own opinion!

Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhein season 2- Netflix

Inspired by SRK's early days of the villain era, this pulpy, dark tragicomedy maintains its charm in exploring the complicated and 'red flag' love story of Vikrant and Purva

Poacher- Amazon Prime Video

An eco-thriller that puts the endangerment of the animals at the forefront and calls out the behaviour of human beings, the worst animal in the jungle, was very much the need of the hour, which this Kerala-based yet pan-Indian series becomes!

Panchayat 3- Amazon Prime Video

A third part of a series that has become a pop culture from the house of production that is regarded as the one that will hardly disappoint manages to take ahead the momentous legacy of the Phulera, even though it slightly falls but predominantly works! Confusing. Pls rewrite.

Lootere- Disney+ Hotstar

Although the show had no big names to rely on, it stood out for its gritty storytelling, compelling characters, and raw depiction of human survival in the face of systemic oppression. Its nuanced exploration of complex moralities made it emotionally impactful!

Special Mention: Gullak Season 4 since it continued the legacy of the show and the representation of a lower-middle-class family with its commentary intact! Which series would make it to your list? Tell us in the comments below.
