On World Photography Day, let's give a shout out to some brilliant on-screen photograhers who weaved magic through their layered portrayal of the pursuit on screen!
Actors playing artists on-screen always fascinate me. I feel they understand the depth and layers of their personality and that also transcends to our screens. Photography in particular is an art that inspires you to see a story in everything, and seeing an actor bring that vision to life becomes all the more interesting because they too have a fair understanding of the magic of light and shadow. From geeky photojournalists to the goofy personalities who love to click for fun, some of these reel-life photographers have shown us that a camera is more than just a gadget, its an expression of onself and a powerful tool to convey something important! As we celebrate this art of freezing time, let’s take a look at some of our favourite characters and discuss what they could offer us in their photography exhibitions.
Take a look!
Siddharth Mehra - Wake Up Sid
Sid is a young, care-free lad who finds his calling in the profession of photography, when he re-kindles his love for the art during an internship. His exhibition could center around the theme of self-discovery, first showcasing his amateur, self-indulgent shots and then presenting his collection of honest and heartfelt clicks that capture the soul and chaos of Mumbai.
Farhan Qureshi - 3 Idiots
Farhan starts off as a reluctant engineering student who follows his passion for wild-life photography after an emotional confrontation with his father. As a prominent figure of his profession, who even published books, his exhibition would be a stunning collection of powerful and intimate shots of animals in their natural habitats. We are totally imagining pictures of African lions on the hunt, majestic elephants in migration, and birds in flight, captured in their raw grandeur!
Sam - Garam Masala
Sam is a playful and mischievous guy who pursues fashion photography for a living. His art gallery would feature a mix of glamorous, over the top fashion photographs dipped in glamour and technicality and also some hilarious candid shots of his dear friend Mac (Akshay Kumar) and his shenanigans.
Frieda - Angry Indian Goddess
Friedais a fiery photographer who speaks her mind, and whose eye for detail is hard to miss. Her collection would be a reflection of her struggle to move from a superficial commercial photographer to a more authentic artist. Her photographs would be a powerful statement on female identity, friendship, and self-discovery.
Veronica - Cocktail
Veronica as a character is defined by her wild, carefree, partyholic exterior and a sense of deep vulnerability which she often hides. While she does photography for fun, her collection would still be unmissable for it could feature some vibrant, chaotic, and emotionally raw shots right from London’s high end clubs to lively streets of the city!
Jaya Sahni - Madras Cafe
Jaya Sahni, a British war correspondent in Sri Lanka, would be a perfect fit to present a collection of impactful photos from war-torn regions. The idea of the event could be to showcase the human cost of conflict, showing the struggles and suffering of ordinary people. The profound, black and white images would serve as a powerful reminder of the perils of violence.
Vinod Chopra and Sudhir Mishra - Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro
The iconic owners of South Mumbai's Beauty Photo Studio, Mr.Chopra and Mr. Mishra’s exhibition could offer a satirical look at corruption and the absurdities of society. Given their unprofessional style, the pictures would be blurry, and uneven, however, we’re sure they will offer an important look at the moral ambiguity of the city and its systems.
Raja Chowdhury - Mr and Mrs Iyer
In Aparna Sen's beautiful tale of unlikely connections, Bose portrays Raja Chowdhury, a wildlife photographer. Chowdhury’s gallery could feature some stunning photographs of nature and also some raw, candid shots of his tense bus journey amid the communal violence. It could be an emotionally evoking series of pictures of his fellow passengers, highlighting the power of human connection and thoughtfulness.
Bunny - Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
An event that would excite GenZ the most, Bunny’s photography exhibition, featuring a collection of breath-taking photos from all around the globe would be something that we wouldn't miss for the world. We’d totally love to see the bustling streets of Paris, serene mountains of Manali, deserts of Morocco, and the beaches of Brazil through the eyes of our high-spirited hero who inspired a generation to take up videography/photography as a profession.
Peter Parker - Spider-Man
Another interesting exhibit, Peter's gallery would be a collection of professionally shot images for the Daily Bugle, capturing Spider-Man in action in mind-blowing detail. Afterall, who wouldn't want to see their super-hero through the lens of his human side. Intriguing, right?
Jonathan Byers - Stranger Things
Jonathan Byers is a thoughtful, melancholic and reserved character, who, we feel, can capture these emotions beautifully through his vintage 35mm film camera. Not to forget, the eventful Hawkins would also enable him to capture some abstract and eerie shots of the woods and the landscape around the town that would add a layer of eerie and mystery to his collection.
Kabir - Ajeeb Daastaans
Kabir is a deaf and mute photographer who trusts the language of eyes for he believes humans can lie through words but not with their eyes. His photo exhibition would be a profound and poignant collection of some intimate portraits of regular humans and melancholic cityspaces of Mumbai, captured with the intentions of conveying deeper meaning in mundane scenes.
