The first look trailer for the much-awaited second season of One Piece live-action is here, and it’s brimming with adventure, scale, and fresh intrigue.

August 10th marked One Piece Day, and it couldn’t have been a better occasion for Netflix to drop a major update on its live-action series. After a first season that earned praise for being unexpectedly faithful and heartfelt, the streamer released the first trailer for One Piece Season 2, giving fans a real taste of what’s next as the Straw Hat Pirates set sail into the Grand Line.

The trailer outlines several key arcs from the manga, including Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island, while hinting at the larger threat posed by Baroque Works and the unfolding of the Alabasta Saga. Alongside the return of Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji, it introduces important new characters such as Nico Robin, Vivi, Smoker, and Brogy.

The visuals suggest an ambitious scale. Reverse Mountain is shown with the Going Merry navigating powerful currents, Little Garden’s dense green setup appears rich and atmospheric, and Brogy (Brendan Sean Murray) towers over the crew, just like in the anime, reinforcing the sense of danger and adventure that lies ahead. Another aspect that stands out in the new trailer is the casting choices. Lera Abova as Nico Robin makes a strong impression with her measured and enigmatic presence. Charithra Chandran’s Vivi, even with a slightly muted reveal, has the poise and resolve fans expect from Alabasta’s princess. Callum Kerr’s Smoker, with his twin cigars and weathered expression, looks every bit the hard-edged Marine captain.

Not everything in the trailer lands equally well, though. Laboon’s reveal, intended to show off the whale’s immense presence, has drawn mixed reactions, with some viewers feeling it lacks the sense of awe from the manga and anime. Additionally, many fans were hoping to catch a glimpse of the beloved reindeer doctor, Tony Tony Chopper, whose absence is particularly noticeable given his importance to the Drum Island arc.

However, the trailer’s biggest takeaway is Netflix’s confidence in the series. Locking in a third season before the second has aired sends a clear message that One Piece is here to stay, and that the Alabasta Saga will get the space it needs to fully play out. The wait until 2026 may be long, but if this trailer is any indication, the journey ahead will be worth it.
