The unbeaten record of Liverpool at the Anfield Premier League was broken after Burnley won Thursday's match by 1-0.
Liverpool fans were left upset as the club's 68-match unbeaten streak at Anfield ended in the Premier League on Thursday. What hurts the clubs long holding record happens to be a new record for Burnley. It became the first team to win in the league at Anfield since April 2017. It also became Burnley's first win at Liverpool since 1974.
Burnley's striker Ashley Barnes scored the match-winning goal from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute after the forward was brought down by goalkeeper Alisson Becker. There was tension before Barnes scored the winning goal as he reacted angrily to Fabinho resulting in him receiving a yellow card. Mike Dean had dismissed Alissonβs pleas as Barnes dusted himself off to score from the spot and inflict a first home defeat on Liverpool in 68 matches.
Burnley who is trying to stay in the league, moved seven points above the drop zone after yesterday's win. This means that Jurgen Kloppβs side are now six points off the Premier League leaders and haven't scored in their last four top-flight games.
