Christmas movies

Christmas is my favorite time of the year for various reasons but majorly because of how movies have romanticised it in my mind! So if I truly got to spend Christmas the way I wanted, here’s everything that I would do!

In Christmas movies, every bad thing in the world just seizes to exist. There’s no big pressure to take, there’s no problems to solve and there’s definitely no work to do. They feel like a warm hug that’s telling you everything will be alright in the end. The joy and happiness of Christmas exudes through these movies and over the years they have become my safe space especially around this time of the year. I have watched each and every one of these movies at least a gazillion times and I might know every dialogue by heart, but that’s not going to stop me from watching them every year! Because no matter how many times I watch them the feeling remains consistent, year on year. But since Christmas is not celebrated as widely in India as it is in the west, a lot of my Christmases looked a bit different from what I am used to seeing on-screen. The maximum I was allowed was to decorate a small tree at home and drink some hot chocolate! But if the inner child in me was allowed to celebrate Christmas the way she wanted to, here’s what it would look like!

Do a house swap like The Holiday!

It's my dream to live in Amanda (Cameron Diaz)'s house from The Holiday. There’s no doubt I will be screaming the same way Iris (Kate Winslet) did the first time she entered that house. A swim in the pool by myself and then a nap for hours on end would definitely be my number one priority on Christmas!

Have my very own limousine and drive to the best toy store while I eat some pizza OTW!

Pizza and living luxuriously? Say no more! As a kid, I was so envious of Kevin to be able to live the dream life. But it’s not like that wish has changed as an adult either. I would drop everything in a heartbeat to go to NYC and live that Home Alone 2 life on Christmas!

Have ice cream for dinner while watching my favorite movie

It’s Christmas! There’s no rules for being happy, and also is it ever too early or too late to eat ice-cream?

Fall in love with a prince and kiss him under the mistletoe

I mean, would I love it if I was sent by my workplace to interview a prince who fell head over heels in love with me? Yes please! Is that too much to ask for on Christmas?

Eat the best cookies made by Stacy

The chocolate chip cookies in Christmas films always look like they’re the most delicious ever! My ideal Christmas would definitely be hogging on these on Christmas morning made by Stacy (Vanessa Hudgens) in The Princess Switch.

Decorate the Christmas tree with my loved ones

It has to be my most favorite part of Christmas! The Christmas tree holds such a meaningful place in my heart. I have always wanted to get a big one at home and decorate it with my friends and family to make it look like the most aesthetic and Instagram worthy tree anybody has ever seen!

Tell someone I love them with placards while Christmas carols play in the background

I have always wanted to do this ever since this film came out. What a cute way to tell someone you love them? Iconic forever!

Celebrate Christmas at Hogwarts while wearing my invisibility cloak

There’s no Christmas without visiting Hogwarts. It literally is the most magical place any kid can dream of. I sure would love to wear my Gryffindor sweater and then open presents that I was least expecting to receive!
