House of Growth

We all know how those short and crisp infotainment videos make us scroll making us wonder how these creators come up with their ideas. We had a conversation with House of Growth's Aman and Subhra about the same.

Instagram started as a picture-sharing platform but over time it has transformed into much more. Over time, considering the preferences of its users, it has introduced a number of features which has allowed people to do much more on the platform. No matter what your preferences are, you can always find your type of content on social media. Some people even rely on social media for informative content and unlike traditional formats, short videos or posts have been proven to be more appealing to the audience.

The creators of such pages employ creativity and brevity, condensing complex concepts into easily digestible posts. As a result, the audience can stumble upon a treasure trove of knowledge, ranging from educational snippets to life hacks, all while scrolling through their feeds. But you might have wondered about the process that goes behind these videos and posts. Where do these creators get their ideas from? How do they fact-check their information? We had a pretty insightful conversation with Aman and Subhra from the House of Growth over the same.

What are some effective strategies for selecting engaging topics for infotainment content?

Each topic should add some value to someone’s life. We believe we are all connected through stories and it is the medium that has stood the test of time, and this is the reason why we focus on storytelling above all. It helps us to break down complex topics into very relatable situations that can be understood easily.

How important is storytelling in infotainment content creation and how can it be effectively incorporated?

We make content with the intent of making finance simple and less boring, so storytelling helps in binding entertainment and financial information in an engaging way, for example, making people aware of government schemes but weaving in some real-life events.

What are the essential steps in the pre-production phase of your content and how do you make sure to be up-to-date?

There is a lot of information around us and to break down which ones are the right content for our audience is a tough call. Sometimes we have to say no to topics that might get views but we take the hard call impact > views. Our team, especially our writer, is our chatGPT. He is somehow aware of everything. Our way is very traditional and includes reading/consuming everything that comes under our niche. This is what we love at the end of the day.

What are some key considerations for scripting and structuring your content?

We would rather entertain and hope that people learned something than educate people and hope they were entertained - this is what we try to do with each post. Some key points that we keep in mind are, relatability to our viewers, curiosity and direct impact or value to our viewers.

How can creators ensure their infotainment content is visually appealing and engaging to the audience?

There is no secret sauce or formula! You experiment with many formats and whatever gets more attention you adapt it. We believe in experiments and novelty but it has to be done in a very sustainable way. We can’t take 3 months on 1 experiment and call it we are doing it for the audience. It is a daily process, 1% better each day!

Are there any ethical considerations or guidelines that infotainment content creators should keep in mind?

This is very subjective but universally if we have to say - provide accurate information, disclose conflicts of interest, avoid sensationalism, respect privacy and tackle cultural sensitivities very precisely or avoid them.

Are there any legal considerations or copyright issues that creators should be aware of when producing infotainment content?

There are a lot! For example - give credit to music or video owners if you are using them in your videos. But most importantly claim your channel name’s patent and trademark. Take it from us, we had to change it when we reached 200K followers! We tend to avoid giving any financial advice because they are subjective.

What are some common mistakes to avoid in infotainment content creation, and how can they be mitigated?

Don’t try to flaunt your knowledge, people won’t understand it or it might be difficult to consume. Break it down and teach/explain it like they are 5 years old. Don’t try to be perfect. Be you and people will connect with you. Keep listening to your viewers. They are the ones who give blunt feedback. And enjoy the process.

We hope that you find these suggestions helpful!
