A perfect addition to the festive spirits, Kinnari Jain’s Reel series highlights India’s most iconic textiles, sharing their stories, craftsmanship, and cultural roots.

India’s love affair with textiles is as old as its many cultures, with every fold of fabric telling the story of the land it comes from, the techniques and patterns passed down through generations, and the way a simple garment can carry centuries of history without ever losing its relevance. We often admire their beauty without pausing to think about what makes them so special. Today, however, we come across creators who have become our gateway to understanding these beautiful artistic parts of our culture. In one of her recent videos, Kinnari Jain, the content creator and fashion enthusiast, speaks about the tiny mirrors on our garba outfits, explaining how they were once popularly meant to represent water in the dry stretches of Kutch and were believed to ward off evil. This small detail opens our eyes, making us wonder how little we talk about the stories our fabrics carry. This kind of curiosity is exactly what fuels Kinnari’s series From Loom to Look, where she decodes India’s most iconic textiles while sharing ways to style them for the festive season.

Talking about her motivation, Kinnari said she wanted this series to nudge people into being more thoughtful about their festive wardrobes. “This festive season, I wanted to encourage people to be more mindful about what they wear, the history of the textiles, their cultural significance, the labour and craftsmanship that go into them, and the origin stories they carry,” she explained. “When you understand these layers, you don’t just wear a garment, you value it, respect it and begin to choose Indian textiles more intentionally.” And because styling is her natural forte, she added with a smile, “staying true to my roots, I wove in styling tips too.” As we celebrate 9 days of Navratri and bask in the festive spirits, this Reel series is a reminder to appreciate the history behind the fabrics that adorn us.
