As May gets busy with various carpets being rolled out and fashion to film statements being made, here's what you could've missed out on! Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani are reuniting again for a Dadasaheb Phakle biopic. Max has added HBO back again in their branding and will now be called 'HBO Max' once again. Ginny Weds Sunny 2 is announced with Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankar; Bhool Chuk Maaf finally has a release date for its theatrical release. From Marvel Studios we have Avengers Doomsday, and Ironheart coming soon.

Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani reunite for Dadasaheb Phalke biopic

Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani are collaborating again after a long time on a four-year-in-development biopic about Dadasaheb Phalke. The film is set against India’s independence struggle and will trace the pioneering journey of the father of Indian cinema. However, SS Rajamouli and Jr NTR are reportedly eyeing a similar project, making this a potential filmmaker face-off.

Max announced new branding as HBO Max

In an ironic branding reversal, Warner Bros. Discovery, after two years of dropping “HBO”, is returning it to its streaming platform, renaming Max to HBO Max once again to lean into its premium TV legacy. This return saw social media going into a frenzy of memes and taking a dig at the platform, which graciously admitted the crazy move. 

Special Ops new season announced

JioHotstar has dropped a teaser for the new season of Special Ops. Himmat Singh, aka Kay Kay Menon, with maker Neeraj Pandey, is returning with his trusted team, including Karan Tacker and some new faces, as they dive into another thrilling investigation. The release date of the new season hasn’t been announced but it is coming soon!

The Paper, the follow-up to The Office, gets release date

A spiritual sequel to The Office, titled The Paper, is all set to premiere in September 2025. Created by Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, the series is expected to follow the mockumentary-style humour and office politics, though this time in the world of a struggling local newspaper. It stars Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, and Oscar Nunez in pivotal roles. 

Ginny Weds Sunny 2 announced

Tanu Weds Manu makers and producer Vinod Bachchan announce the film Ginny Weds Sunny 2, the much-awaited sequel to Ginny Weds Sunny, though this time the rom-com is in motion with Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankar leading the cast, promising fresh chaos and chemistry as a new love story unfolds. 

Nobody Wants This seaaon 2 gets a release date

When Nobody Wants This season 1 came in, it quickly built a space for itself among the audience craving some good old hopeless romantic comedy drama that Adam Brody and Kristen Bell delivered. The second season with 10 episodes is announced, and the much-awaited sequel is set to premiere on October 23, 2025. 

Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi’s Bhool Chuk Maaf to release in theatres this month

After legal tussles with PVR, OTT release debates, and multiple delays owing to the country's current situation, Bhool Chuk Maaf finally gets a theatrical release. Brought by Maddock Films, the Rajkummar Rao-Wamiqa Gabbi starrer will hit theatres on May 23, 2025.

Avengers: Doomsday gets release date; Ryan Coogler’s Ironheart trailer released

Marvel has confirmed that Avengers: Doomsday, starring Robert Downey Jr., will release in May 2026. Meanwhile, Ryan Coogler’s Ironheart drops its trailer with a three-episode premiere set for June 24, marking Riri Williams's return to the MCU.

First look of Spider-Noir starring Nicolas Cage unveiled

A first glimpse of Spider-Noir has arrived. The live-action series starring Nicolas Cage and developed by showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot for MGM+, based on the Marvel Comics character. It will be released in 2026 in both colour and black-and-white formats for that moody noir effect. It follows an ageing private investigator and superhero in an alternate version of 1930s New York City, grappling with his past life.

Teaser for Lav Diaz’s Magellan and ‘Americana’ trailer released

A new epic from Lav DiazMagellan, has dropped its teaser featuring Gael Garcia Bernal. The film is expected to be a slow-burning philosophical retelling of the explorer’s journey. Meanwhile, Tony Tost’s gritty, offbeat Americana-themed film, starring Sydney Sweeney, Halsey, Paul Walter Hauser, and others, will be released in theatres on August 22. The trailer promises guns, angst, and Americana oddities.

Netflix’s Sirens drops on May 22; new season of Nine Perfect Strangers returns

Julianne Moore, Meghann Fahy and Milly Alcock starrer Sirens is a dark, character-driven drama hitting Netflix on May 22. Expect psychological tension and slow-burning thrills. And as the twisted retreat is reopened its gates, the second season of Nine Perfect Strangers, headlined by the ever-intriguing and charismatic Nicole Kidman, is on its way, with new faces and deeper emotional reckonings.

HBO reveals trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms

HBO unveiled the trailer for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms at a recent Warner Bros. event. However, fans will have to wait longer as the show’s release has been pushed to 2026, delaying the much-anticipated return to Westeros.
