The Central Government on Wednesday banned PUBG, one of the most popular gaming apps in India. The app joins the list of other 118 Chinese apps that have been banned by the government following security concerns. Earlier the government had banned TikTok along with 58 Chinese apps but had excluded PUBG from the list. The PUBG ban came at a time when there is increased tension between the two countries at the border.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said in their official release, "The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has received many complaints from various sources including several reports about the misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India."

The gaming app that is quite popular among the youths of the country faced a lot of scrutiny in the past for its violent nature. It's in-game purchases also caused teens to spend lakhs.

The central government banned 118 Chinese mobile apps, including the popular game PUBG. The apps have been banned by the Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology as "they are engaged in activities prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of the state and public order". "This move will safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile and internet users. This decision is a targeted move to ensure safety, security and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace," said a statement from the ministry.
