U.S. Senator, Kamala Harris becomes the Democratic candidate for the position of the Vice President of the United States.

Kamala Harris to be Joe Biden’s Vice-Presidential running mate, making her the first woman of colour to be nominated for national office by a major political party. Widely considered a moderate Democrat, she seems ecstatic to join Biden as nominee for the position.

This is a path-breaking moment for Kamala as she has been elevated onto a Democratic presidential ticket. If Joe Biden is chosen as the president then Harris becomes the automatic frontrunner in the race for the 2024 or 2028 Democratic nomination.

“I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked @KamalaHarris  — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate,” says Joe Biden.

Her father hails from Jamaica and mother hails from Tamil Nadu, India, making her parents immigrants to the USA. Harris was also the first black woman elected as California’s attorney general, and only the second black woman, and the first woman of South Asian heritage to be elected to the US Senate. She is the first person of Indian descent to be nominated for national office by a major party.

“Black women and women of colour have long been underrepresented in elected office and in November we have an opportunity to change that. Let’s get to work. says Kamala Harris.
