We had a chat with Indian YouTuber, Comedian, and Script Writer, Satish Ray from Hypp about his popular characters like Imaandar Sharma, Alpha Pandey, and his recent stint in MX Player’s Show Pandeyji Zara Sambhal k.
Though he started creating content in 2014, Satish Ray’s professional career started as a writer at The Viral Fever in 2019. His character Imaandar Sharma as the interviewer was widely appreciated. Ray soon started creating content for his channel that goes by his name.

1. How did your journey as a Creator begin?
"Actually bohot phele start hogaya tha. 2014 me mene engineering ke time ek channel khola kiya tha ‘Backbenchers’ karke. Tab me create karne laga tha comedy videos. Kafi videos usspe banayi thi as a creator. Me TVF se kafi inspired tha, 2-3 channel aur banaye. Lekin abhi jo mera situation hai, mera YouTube channel hai, Instagram hai, Facebook hai, creation ka abhi jo scene hai yeh 2019 se jab me TVF me tha, TVF me mujhe kaam nahi mil raha tha acting ke tab mene unke Instagram ke liye videos banana start kiya. Vaha me feature hone laga. Deere deere me apne account pe shift hone laga kyuki mere followers bad gaya aur me apna content badane laga, phir apna YT channel bhi khola."
2. How do you differentiate yourself from other Rant Creators?
"Actually, agar aap gor karonge ki me dusre rant creators se kyu alag hoon, toh me hu hi nahi rant creator. Me ek filmmaker hu, agar aap mere channel pe jaoge hum itne alag alag tarike ke videos banate hai. Mujhe acha nahi lagta ek video kholke rant kar diya. Vo bohot hi ek sasta tarika hai, halaki vo ek format hai jise me khelta hu. Mera ek character hai Alpha Pandey, sirf vo karta hai rant. Aur Alpha Pandey me bhi me alag alag video banane ki try karte raheta hu. Toh me rant creator toh bilkul bhi nahi hu. Mera ek character hai jo rant karta hai. Me ek filmmaker hu jo sketch banata hai, jiame script hota hai, music hota hai, direction hota hai."
3. How different is Satish Ray from Imaandar Sharma? What is your mantra to balance between the two?
"Satish Ray aur Imandar Sharma kitne alag hai, actually bohot alag hai. Me directly kabhi isse bolta nahi hu par actually jokes lene ka jo tarika hai, bolte bolte palat jana yeh toh me karta hu. Iss vajah se kahi baar log meko seriously nahi lete. Balance kaise hota hai, actually meko balance karna hi nahi hai. Me 2 life jee hi nahi raha hu. Toh balance karne ki koi zarurat nahi hai, kyuki Imandar Sharma vaise bhi bohot kam play karna hota hai. Aur usske bohot sare traits alag hai toh meko balance karne ki zarurat hi nahi padti. Lekin ha, log bolte hai mere joke sunke ki 'tum sahi me Imandar Sharma jaise hi baat karte ho.' Toh bas vo dar bana rehta hai ki bhai log seriously le mujhe. Dusra charactertics yeh hi hai vo bohot baatuni hai. Bohot bolta hai, rukta nahi hai. Usske pas bolne ke liye bohot kuch hai. 4. What is a typical characteristic of Imaandar Sharma?
"Imandar Sharma ke typical charactertics yeh hai ki, vo honest kyu hai yeh batane ke liye koi activity ki zarurat nahi hai. Vo khud bata dega ki usske andar kya galtiya hai. Vo honesty se baat shuru karega, lagega ki vo positive jaa raha hai, bohot confidence ke sath logo ko bata raha hai actually, aur vo palat jaa raha hai. Vo end me ekdum imandari se bata deta hai ki me yeh kar raha hu. Toh koi bhi dialogue aap le lo toh ussme isse hi hota hai ki, 'Me ek respectable teacher hu apne bacho ke application me, aur isse bohot syllabus tha toh mene yaad kar liya Hanuman chalisa.' Toh vo ekdum imandari se ek baat shuru karega, aage badega aur phir end me palat jayega. Ekdum flip ho jayega."
5. Do you self-police while creating content? Do you have some rules for yourself or how do you draw a line while creating comedy? What is your mantra?
"Bilkul yaar self-police karna padta hai aur apne aapko ek boundary line deni padti hai. Me koi religious sentiment hurt nahi karna chahta, me bohot sari cheeze nahi karna chahta. Same-sex jokes nahi marna chahta, kisiko offend nahi karna chahta, political views pe. Lekin sath hi sath me apni voice dabana nahi chahta. Me sarcasm banaye rakhna chahta hu. Comedy achi chahiye hoti hai. Ek video hona chahiye current affairs pe. Lekin bohot sare logo ko offend kiye bina. Issa nahi ki right wing pe joke maar rahe ho ke left wing ka kuch dik hi nahi raha. Aur below the belt, double meaning kuch nahi karta me. Toh jyada saaf sutra, gali raheti hai toh on the face raheti hai. Kyuki Alpha Pandey gali deta hai toh vo gali deta hai. Aur usske liye vo kuch chupata nahi hai aur double meaning bate nahi karta. Honesty raheti hai, par bohot jayada hum jokes ko filter karte hai."
6. Please take me to the BTS of your content creation process?
"BTS, Agar vo video Instagram ke liye ban rahi hai toh usska script me man me soch leta hoon aur ussko me bohot baar shoot kar leta hoon alag alag tarike se aur kuch jo pasand aata hai ussko edit karke daal deta hoon. Lekin YT ka alag hai. Usske liye ek pura team hai, me apne co-writer ke sath betke ek idea sochta hoon. Phir usspe hum 2-3 din jam karte hai. Uske baad humese koi ek 1st draft likhta hai aur dusra 2nd draft likhta hai. Phir hum usska ek final punch up karte hai aur phir usskp shoot karte hai, edit me vo 2-3 din rahega aur bohot majedar hota hai. Hum uss script ko bohot jyada follow up nahi karte. Hum sochre hote hai ki issme aur kya kar sakte hai. Jo director ko laga yaa meko laga usske hisab se add karte hai. Bohot improvise karte hai, bohot haste hai actually. Kahi baar toh 14-15 takes tak toh haste hi jaate hai. Hum bohot enjoy karte hai iss liye humara content bhi funny hota hai."
7. What is your Social Media Ritual?
"Mera social media ritual hai nahi. Halaki me rehta hoon social media me, par me jaldi se influencer ban gaya issa lagta hai meko. Mera issa kuch hai nahi ki me live aaunga, pictures post karunga. Videos bhi agar 2 hafte meko nahi man kiya toh nahi dalunga. Lekin ha, ritual yeh hi hai ki me sube jake dekta hoon ki logo ne kya dala hai, kya story dali hai. Silent observer rehta hoon."
8. How was your experience in working for the web series - Pandeyji Zara Sambhal k? Any memorable instances?
"Pandeyji Zara Sambhalke me kya experience raha. Bohot acha experience tha kyuki lockdown shuru ho chuka tha aur September me humne shoot kiya tha toh pheli baar aajadi mili thi. Humne precautions ke sath Pune me shoot kiya. Bohot acha mausam tha vaha pe. Toh acha lagta tha actually shoot karte samay. Aur jo director the vo mere hi state ke the aur jo heroine thi Dolly Chawala, vo Punjab ki thi. Toh producer se Punjabi me baat karke unhe impress karne ki khoshish kar rahi thi. Toh groups ban gaya tha. Ek group jo Punjabi bol raha tha, ek jo Bhojpuri bol raha tha aur ek jo Marathi bol raha tha. Toh kafi maja aa raha tha ussme."
