The controversial and much-anticipated show “Lock Upp” hosted by Kangana Ranaut premiered on Sunday night on ALTBalaji and MX Player. ‘Many Rules, One Queen!” says the show’s tagline. In the show, 13 popular celebrity contestants will be locked up in the hosts’ ‘jail’ for 72 days. They will be seen competing for basic amenities as they fight for the winner’s title. The contestants aka the prisoners include Munawar Faruqui, Poonam Pandey, Nisha Rawal, Sara Khan, Kaaranvir Bohra, Tehseen Poonawala, Payal Rohatgi, Saisha Shinde, Swami Chakrapani, Shivam Sharma, Siddharth Sharma, Anjali Arora, and Babita Phogat.
The show seems to be quite bold, raw, and edgy as the first episode itself saw a lot of arguing and grilling. Ranaut invited the contestants on stage by announcing the allegations against them. The contestants, however, were given a chance to defend themselves. Thereafter, Ranaut sent them for a 10-week jail term. They were allowed to only take 'three essentials' with them. The interesting factor is that the contestants will be given a chance to walk out of the show anytime they want. However, Ranaut warned that if they quit, they will be termed a failure all their lives.
Popular Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon appeared as a special invitee and heard Kangana explain to her the concept of the show. Produced by Endemol Shine India, who is also behind shows such as ‘Bigg Boss’ and ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’, ‘Lock Upp’ will stream on ALTBalaji and MX Player releasing new episodes at 10.30 PM. daily, while it will also be available on stream 24*7.
