The year might have changed to 2022, but our love for makeup will stay the same. When the pandemic began, we found the much-required time to experiment with makeup and came up with many astonishing trends. In 2020, we played with eyeliners and created trends like floating eyeliner, animal print eyes and watercolour lids. We let go of the shyness as we embraced bold blue lipsticks and glitter. In 2021, we saw the rise of the ‘no-makeup’ makeup look. The minimal makeup trend was chosen by many who wanted to opt for a natural look. Using a dewy base and nude lipsticks, we chose makeup that makes one look as if they are wearing no makeup at all. The world of makeup is truly dynamic.
Now that we have stepped into a new year, many are guessing what makeup trends will be popular in 2022. After all, no one wants to be left behind in the ever-evolving world of makeup. We reached out to beauty content creators on Instagram to ask their predictions about #WhatsNewin2022 in the makeup universe.
Here's what they said!
Tanya Balchandani, who uses her Instagram account @glittersbytanya to showcase her various looks says, “I feel that a lot of glitters will never go out of style in 2022. Since Euphoria, a Netflix series is the new tea in the market, I think sparkles and metallics are going nowhere. When it comes to lips, it's most likely be all about contoured and over-lined lips. Juicy and glossy lips are also hot at the moment.”
Speaking about the usage of blush, Tanya adds, “2022 would all be about applying blush all the way up to the temples. Blush really brings the face to life and draping that colour through your temples, cheekbones, and apples of your cheeks lifts and frames the face. Liquid and cream blushes would be chosen in the place of powdered ones. So, ensure that you have these blushes up in your makeup bag.”
Blogger, Shalini Kutti (@urshaynesss) also believes that lip gloss will rule the sphere of makeup trends in 2022. She says, "I think the biggest makeup trend in 2022 will be the comeback of lip gloss or voluptuous and juicy lips. Just like flared jeans made a comeback!"
Digital creator, Megha Singh (@meghaess) speaks in favour of the ‘Euphoria trend’. She says, “Pretty much all of 2021, we saw a huge rise of the clean makeup look, previously also known as the no-makeup makeup look. In 2022, TV shows like Euphoria are really bringing the loud 90s makeup and hair looks back. Lots of colour, glitter and bold eye makeup. It's also the exact opposite of the clean makeup look. I’ve personally also shot and posted a few 90s/Euphoria inspired looks and everyone is just asking for more.”
Beauty Influencer, Chandni Sindhu (@Chandni_officiall_) differs a bit as she believes that the clean makeup look will continue to reign in 2022. When asked about #WhatsNewin2022, she says, “In my opinion, nowadays every woman loves to wear natural makeup with a glowing dewy base. When it comes to eye makeup, the days of black smokey eyes are gone. People now prefer brown smokey eyes and brown wing liners with bushy eyebrows. Another emerging trend in 2022 is of wearing a nude lip liner and lipstick, not the creamy matte shades. Most of my followers want to wear makeup that gives them a natural look as if they aren’t wearing any makeup at all.”
