Meet Bhavya Monga, the fashion and beauty influencer making a philanthropic impact

As social media has become a space that makes connecting easier, influencers like Bhavya Monga are using it for meaningful influence and much needed awareness.

Over the past few years, social media has become a platform for people to connect and communicate about things that matter and influencers have taken good advantage of it as they use their reach to talk about the things that they believe need their attention. And when we talk of such influencers, Bhavya Monga comes to our mind. Yes, we love her for the insights she has to share on fashion and beauty but she is more than just that. Sure, she can contour like a pro and strut in stilettos like nobody's business, but she's also using her platform to make a difference. With her new philanthropy project, she's educating girls and spreading awareness. Who said being fabulous couldn't also be philanthropic? Bhavya's showing us that we can look, feel and do good all at the same time. We were curious to know how she started it all and hence, we had a little chat with her over the same.

Here's what she shared

What inspired you to start this program for girl education? Can you tell us a little bit about the program?

The spark was ignited while working with an NGO a few years back, where I had the opportunity to connect with people and hear their stories. These stories deeply affected me and I wanted to make a positive impact in my own little way. When I discovered the incredible work that NGOs were doing in the field of girl education, it resonated with me and I decided to take up the cause and use my platform to make a difference.

How do you identify the girls who are in need of sponsorship for their education?

I don't personally identify girls who are in need of sponsorship. Instead, I rely on the expertise of established NGOs that are already working in this field. I take the time to thoroughly research their work, credentials, and annual reports to ensure that they are doing authentic and impactful work. Once I have curated a list of verified NGOs that are making a real difference in the lives of girls, I partner with their sponsorship programs. These organizations have been doing groundwork and execution for years and decades, so I want to contribute to their efforts by doing my part and partnering with them.

How has the response been from the public towards this program?

I believe that it is important for influencers to leverage their social platform for such initiatives. Everybody has their own take on this and their own way of giving back if they want to. However, I feel that since I have the power to influence and have built a community, it is also my responsibility to help amplify the message of so much good that can be done. It is a subject matter that is not amplified enough and not spoken about enough because there is very little glamor in it. Even if 1%. If people get impacted by the message that I am putting out then my job is done. If one person looks up these programs and wants to become a part of it or talk about it, for me that has more value than any biggest campaigns that I get.

Can you share with us a success story of children who have benefited from this program?

I am still in the initial stages of this program that I kicked off last month by having partnered with these NGOs. Their success stories where they have taken care of the girl child education and other causes related to girls from deprived communities give me a sense of immense trust. It was only because of seeing those results, I decided to partner with them. Currently, what I have is the girls’ progress reports where they are going to school, what they like, what their living conditions are like. I am planning to keep a close watch on their report cards and hopefully meet them in these coming weeks and really have a face-to-face with them and be in touch with them throughout the year to see how they are progressing in their education and extracurricular activities.

How do you measure the impact of this program on their lives?

I taking up a small cause to begin with which is the education of girl children from deprived communities. Keeping track of their progress reports and ensuring that I meet these girls quarterly to ensure that they are moving ahead in their schooling and to guide them. For me, it is about not doing a lot of things right now but just ensuring that the girls from the deprived community are getting basic education and are progressing. That’s the only measure that I have currently.

How do you plan to expand this program in the future?

I am starting small and this is the first time I am partnering with an NGO. To expand the program is not something that I am looking at currently because that’s the NGO’s domain. Having said that, while I have sponsored 4 girls so far, I would like to branch out to other causes other than girl education. Ultimately, I want to encourage the community to be a part of these initiatives. So, I think the next steps to expand in our own way would be to encourage our team community to take up such causes and highlight the progress of these girls which encourages people to do it.

What are some of the challenges you have faced while running this program and how have you overcome them?

Honestly we haven’t faced any challenges yet because these NGOs have already done a lot of the hard work in establishing these programs. The only time we took was to research the credibility of these programs to ensure that our money is going in the right place and we get regular progress reports while getting to meet the girls regularly. Besides that, there really haven’t been any obstacles because our partner teams have been really wonderful in communication reports for coordination of the business clarity whatever we need. It is their hard work. We are just getting to be a part of their story and taking the message to the audience.

How important is it to you to be able to make a difference in the lives of these girls?

There really is no comparison. This just hits differently. It just gives meaning and purpose to my work. To be able to get these girls’ photographs, their progress reports and to be able to meet them and look them in the eye and to know that I am in my own little way helping them, for me that is the most important thing. It gives depth and true meaning to my work and makes me want to work harder.
