Mimi

Mimi starring Kriti Sanon and Pankaj Tripathi is a tale of surrogacy with a side dose of laughter. It's a social commentary served with a tickle to your bones.

The famous father-daughter duo of Kriti Sanon and Pankaj Tripathi from Bareilly Ki Barfi is back, but this time in a different light. The trailer of Mimi shows a tale of surrogacy mixed and served with a heavy dose of laughter. The story revolves around, Mimi (Kriti Sanon), who becomes a surrogate for a foreign couple after, Jai (Pankaj Tripathi), convinces Mimi to take up the couple's offer. But the twist in the tale comes when it's revealed that they've decided they don't want the child anymore.

The film does seem to explore the struggling emotional aspects of surrogacy and its's societal implications in India. The film poses as a social commentary filled with humor that touches upon the theme of religion as well. Mimi has to figure out how to hide the pregnancy from her parents. And when they find out either way, they assume that their daughter has had a child out of wedlock, and continuously ask for the father. In response to incessant questioning, Mimi points at Jai as the father, hence the comedy and twist ensue.

The movie also stars Manoj Pahwa, Supriya Pathak, and Sai Tamhankar. This film also reunites the team of the rom-com Luka Chuppi. The director, Laxman Utekar and producer Dinesh Vijan come together with the leads again to bring us another light-hearted social commentary. It is slated to release on July 30 on Netflix.
