Monica, O My Darling starring Rajkummar Rao and Huma Qureshi released on Netflix on November 11 and received a lot of good reviews from the Janta this weekend!
Adapted from a Japanese novel ‘Burūtasu No Shinzou’ that's written by Keigo Higashino, Monica, O My Darling is directed by Vasan Bala who has received a lot of praise from the Janta for his neo-noir thriller, which he's previously known for. This film tells the story of a man who gets entangled in a conspiracy. Jayant Arkhedkar (Rajkummar Rao) works for the Union Group, which is based in Pune. His boss, Satyanarayan Adhikari (Vijay Kenkre) is so impressed with his work that he promotes him to be one of the board of directors. But his boss's son Nishkant Adhikari (Sikander Kher) is so not okay with this happening. And to add to his annoyance, Jayant is also dating his sister, Nikki (Akansha Ranjan Kapur) who he's not really in love with but is ready for a marriage of convenience so he can take over the Union empire someday. But things go haywire when he has an affair with Monica Machado (Huma Qureshi) who works at the Union Group as well.
She blackmails him by saying that she's pregnant with his child and he has to support her financially now. A very scared Jayant bows his head to this situation. But the next day he receives a mysterious letter in which he's asked to come to Khandala and if he refuses, his secret about Monica will be revealed to the world. Once he reached the location, he realizes that it was Nishkant who is waiting for him along with Arvind Manivannan (Bagavathi Perumal) from the accounts department. The two men tell him that they are victims of Monica's blackmail as well. So the three come to the conclusion that the only way out of this is by murdering her. Well, a murder does take place but we'll have to watch the film to find out who got murdered! To add to Jayant's problems, he also becomes a prime suspect on ACP Naidu's (Radhika Apte) radar. A movie that is so full of mystery and plot twists seemed to have kept the Janta guessing who the culprit was till the very end. The cast received a lot of praise from the audience for portraying all the roles with such conviction and the background music of the film too stood out for a lot of them!

Just finished watching Monica O my Darling on @netflix. What a riot! Vasan Bala might be the true heir of Sriram Raghavan. The movie will stand among the best neo-noir crime comedies, at par with Andhadhun and Delhi Belly.

The riveting soundtrack is a bonus.
Especially, the background score placed in a refreshingly different manner.
Super entertaining 👌
Completely floored by Monica O My Darling. So many pop culture and movie references. Captain Zattack 😉

Monica, O My Darling is a fun crime caper laden with a profound commentary on capitalism. Vasan Bala hat-tips Nasir Hussain, Vijay Anand and Sriram Raghavan. But what makes it inherently quirky is that at heart — it's very Abbas-Mastan-like.

Monica O my darling totally gave me an andhadhun nostalgia with the twist pe twist. The soundtrack was too good and the 80s background music and the whole noir vibes of the movie were too well done 🤌🏻🤌🏻 also just totally funny in a dark, gory whodunnit way 😭😭😭

Perfect.
To be rewatched in the near future, for sure.
The thing I loved the most about Monica, O My Darling, more than the story was the musicality of the film.

Monica, O My Darling is an absolute gem in these dire times of Hindi cinemas. It delivers a balanced platter of tension, comedy and thrill. Nicely created characters based on moral duality and societal facades. Terrific @radhika_apte @humasqureshi
