The state government allows for Mumbai local trains to re-open for select essential services from June 15th, 2020 onwards.

The Mumbai's local train services will start running from Monday, June 15th, but only for select essential services. The Western and Central services will resume for select suburb services as allowed by the State government. The services will resume almost after 2 and a half months, but the general passengers will not be allowed on board. The Central Railway will run 200 services (100 up and 100 down)-130 services from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CSMT) to Kasara/Karjat/Kalyan/Thane and 70 services from CSMT to Panvel. Whereas the Western Railway will run 73 pairs of suburban services incl 8 pairs between Virar and Dahanu Road. About 1.25 lakh commuters have been identified as essential services by the Maharashtra state government. Foreseeing any emergency situations, every station will have an ambulance service ready with the presence of proper medical staff. The RPF and state police will also be deployed at each station. The Mumbai local trains will run at a regular interval in order to avoid crowding at the stations.
