K-pop playlist

From BTS to Katseye, there’s way too many iconic K-pop tracks you can add to elevate your garba playlists.

When you think of garba, you think of the rhythmic beats of the dhol and the energy of Gujarati folk instantly coming to mind. The nine day festival is all about bringing your best dance moves and the utmost amount of energy to the table! Every year, we see a set playlist of garba songs. From the best of Falguni Pathak to Bollywood songs like Dholi Taaro, it becomes an annual tradition to enjoy and dance to these songs on loop! But while garba is traditionally rooted in Gujarati folk culture, it has also become a space where music from across genres finds new life on the dance floor.

And lately, one genre that’s proving to be unexpected yet chart topping is K-pop! Similar to garba songs, it has catchy lyrics, beats that make you want to get up and dance and high-energy choreographies that translate the same intensity and group spirit of garba! The songs build momentum and feel tailor made for our festivities as well! Hence it transcends race, religion, community and seamlessly blends two cultures that are built on spreading joy!

So here’s how you can add a K-pop twist to your garba playlist this year!

Happily Ever After - TXT

Not just the song, the choreography itself screams garba as the group moves in circles and claps their hands together. It would be rather vibrant to see it come to life!

APT - Rose of Blackpink ft Bruno Mars

It would be interesting to see a garba choreography on a song that took over the internet last year, so this definitely cannot be missing from your garba playlists!

Gabriela - Katseye

The new global group in town, Katseye’s latest track Gabriela is social media’s latest obsession. A step in particular that includes the moving of their hands in circles is something that has fans trying their best to re-create IRL and totally passes the garba vibe check!

Antifragile - Le Sserafim

The upbeat track and the lyrics of the song overall promote growing stronger through being together and that’s what this festive season is all about as well!

Super - Seventeen

Seventeen’s Super is all power and leaves a lasting impression on you! It rises the energy of the room and makes you want to thump your feet to it, much like what garba songs tend to do!

Jump - Blackpink

Blackpink’s latest track Jump asks you to do exactly what the title suggests and there’s way too many garba choreographies you can fit into this one!

Idol - BTS

Idol is a song composed with traditional Korean folk music and it would be rather interesting to see Gujarati folk blend into a rather iconic BTS song!
