The very first time Asha ji made her singing debut was in 1943 in a Marathi film called Majhe Bal. And over the years, her career spanned over eight decades which included singing songs in various musical genres such as ghazals, bhajans, Indian classical music, folk songs and qawwalis and in more than 20 Indian and foreign languages. She was and always will be one of the most cherished playback singers of Indian cinema. She is the recipient of many awards such as the Padma Vibhushan, Dada Saheb Phalke Award, National award and many Filmfare awards. She was blessed with such a golden voice that could conquer songs of any genre. She truly played a core part in the retro time of Bollywood and gave us songs that actually resonate with people across generations!
She has had a solid musical partnership with all her music composers like R.D. Burman, A.R. Rahman, Ravi, Khayyam, O.P. Nayyar. In collaboration with all of them she delivered some of her major hits such as ‘Ude Jab Jab Zulfein Teri’,‘Chura Liya Hai Tumne’,‘Radha Kaise Na Jale’, among many others. She is also one of the very few Indian artists who has been nominated for a Grammy. Her voice had the ability to change your mood.
