As a true representative of hard work, Manu Bhaker, the Indian Airgun Shooter is inspiring many millions of young girls and taking India’s name to the global horizon.
There were a number of sports that women were not considered to be playing. Men have always been looked at when it comes to sports, but thanks to many women sports personalities over the years, there has been a due representation in the field encouraging many to follow and become a part of the same. A sport that has a growing female representation is Shooting. India has a reasonable number of women shooters who have represented the country on a global level and have our hearts all over. And one among them is Olympian Manu Bhaker, an airgun shooter.
Born to Ram Kishan Bhaker, a chief engineer in Merchant Navy in Goria village in Jhajjar district of Haryana, Manu took to shooting as a sport taking inspiration from her grandfather. Her grandfather Ch. Rajkaran Saheb who was in the Indian military taught her and many kids the importance of hard work and practice. It was this lesson that encouraged Manu to take up a sport that she played only at her school level. Although, she has always been a keen sports lover and played a number of other sports at the national level like Huyen Langlon, a Manipuri martial art, as well as Boxing, Tennis and Skating.
She won nine gold medals at the National Games held at Kerala in 2017. Manu took part in ISSF World Cup in 2018 and 2019 representing India and won two gold medals. Winning yet another gold at the Munich ISSF World Cup in May 2019 qualified her for the Tokyo Olympics.
Manu Bhaker is surely an inspiration to many young girls around the world. She is a symbol of hard work encouraging everyone to never stop dreaming.
