Government of India recently banned 59 Chinese Apps in India, Shein the online fashion shopping site. Ever since, we have been looking for a replacement that can fill the void that absence of Shein will create in our wardrobe.

Honestly, Shein had something for everyone. With clothes and accessories ranging from all styles, range and size, it was one of the favourite shopping websites for all. Though we might find Indian alternatives to the portal, plus-size fashion is still a tough nut to crack in India.

We spoke to Tanvi Geetha Ravishankar aka thechubbytwirler, the body positivity and plus-size fashion blogger about the Indian alternative sites that we can check when it comes to plus-size fashion.

Here is what she has to say –

Let’s discuss the dinosaur in the room.
Over the past few days, I’ve been getting continuous DMs about the Shein ban and what are the alternatives we plus size girls have now.
I understand the reasons behind the decision but the fact of the matter is that Shein was literally the only brand that had trendy clothes for Plus Size women in India.

Forget about Cost and Quality, I’m talking about designs!

Before Shein came into my life, I had to go through the monthly rigmarole of hunting & buying fabric, designing and getting every basic outfit stitched!
It’s a privilege that girls who fit the standard size chart of XS-XL have in our country, to be able to get clothes their size by just walking into any store.

The truth is that as much as we’d love to shop from and support homegrown brands and be #VocalForLocal, none of these brands are size inclusive nor have clothes readily available in sizes above an XL.

So Dear Brands, since you still haven’t understood the huge plus-size demographic that you’re leaving out, let me explain to you…
Plus-size people shop!
We like fashion and trends too!
Don’t give us the cliche Kurtas, Palazzos or baggy, ill-fitted apparel in the name of fashion!
Plus Sizes are not an XL or an XXL. In fact, the standard + range internationally starts from an XXL and goes up to a 6XL!
Don’t keep your price points so high just coz it’s a plus-size range. Stop Discriminating!
THE TIME IS NOW to rethink your business and make use of this opportunity. We are ready to support you but give us the variety and size range that we need!

In the meantime, here are 9 alternate brands to Shein. Cause, although Shein will always hold a special place in our hearts and we owe the brand so much for helping thousands of girls find the freedom to experiment and try fashion, still shopping must go on…

Hope you enjoy this list that I have curated…
