Summers are back and all you can think of is a beach even if we can't visit one right now. Well, beaches are always a great excuse to wear swimwear and get yourselves under the sun. Here's my postpartum body, 6 weeks after giving birth. It's a lot like my prepartum body, except squishier in the middle. Of all the things I expected to do at this time, wearing a two piece swimsuit - even a high-waisted one! - and pretending to drink a Pimms cocktail at the quayside seaside while my husband snapped photos of me, baby strapped to him, definitely wasn't one. It was way out of my comfort zone, which currently involves lounging in the comfy armchair in my oldest pajamas with a milk drunk baby sprawled on my lap. The last time my belly saw the light of the day, I was 9 months pregnant and it was my crowning glory. I need to remind myself that it still is. Right after I pushed Lila out and went into the shower to wash away the afterbirth, I couldn't help notice my belly reflected in the cubicle doors. In the space of a few short hours it had transformed completely. The taut, painful beach ball was gone, replaced by an expanse of malleable skin and pudge. It was soft, the softest and stretchiest it's ever been, and I could grab handfuls of it and mould it however I wanted. And although it's shrunk since then, my post pregnancy belly will always be larger and squishier and floppier than it used to be and I'll have to keep making an effort to not hide it away. That's why I need to venture out of my comfort zone whenever I can. Normalize this part of my body all over again, now that it has remade itself while making my baby. Disney princesses ? have taught us to be strong?? , to stand up for the weak & against the wrong ??‍♀️ , to be kind to everyone ? , to have hope ?? ,to be smart ? , to believe in the power of the universe ?? and most importantly , to BELIEVE in OURSELVES ✨ ! Yesterday might have been #NationalBikiniDay but this @simplybeuk swimsuit is strictly a maillot so ??‍♀️ (Swipe to see more!) I won't lie, I was nervous about wearing a swimsuit that bares this much of my middle to the beach, and a pretty crowded beach at that! I don't have the tiny waist and voluptuous hips of Instagram curve models, I'm mostly just straight up and down and squishy all over. But I suspect that a lot of fat folx who are uncertain about baring a bit of skin at the beach have body types closer to mine than the idealized 'curvy' type that you see all over social media. So here's my lumpy and glorious self cavorting in the surf, urging you to go catch some sun in a tiny swimsuit because life is short (and English summers shorter!)
