7 reasons why Bridgerton season 4 is by far the show’s most progressive chapter yet!

From exploring sexuality to standing up against class divide, the Bridgertons had to re-define everything they had learnt so far and we’re all for it!

The world of Bridgerton was introduced to us back in December 2020 and it felt like we were transported to an entirely different era. Set in the 1800s or better known as the Regency era, Daphne and Simon’s story felt impactful and romantic but there wasn’t much that we could relate to. Young women were thrown into the marriage mart. Everyone’s lives revolved around getting the best suitors and marrying into a wealthy family. We had no idea who Lady Whistledown was because she was hiding behind a hood and everything that was deemed ‘scandalous’ by the ton was happening behind closed doors. It’s safe to say that we have come a long way since then! 

Season 4 felt like the show has reached its peak and had revelations after revelations. It wasn’t just Benedict’s life that was taking a major turn but everyone in the Bridgerton household was also having a pivotal character development in their own way. The mama of the family no longer wants to be just a mama, at a time when women barely had any rights to themselves. The Bridgerton household is more matriarchal than they think and, more than anything, the family stands true to their word about marrying for love and not just to satisfy society’s expectations. The Bridgertons don’t know it yet, but they’re way ahead of their times!

Violet Bridgerton’s sexual awakening was probably the hottest arc this season!

Violet Bridgerton lost her husband years ago and has been burdened with raising eight children all by herself. Every season when a Bridgerton sibling gets married, we have a smile on our faces, but Violet Bridgerton is prepping to get the next one dip their toe in the world of matrimony. For the first time in forever, in season 4 we saw her choosing herself. We saw who she is, what her personality is like besides being a mother. She took the reins of her sex life in her hands and we didn’t know the Bridgerton mama could still look that hot in a corset. Her rendezvous with Lord Anderson was an unconventional one for the times she is living in but we’re glad she’s exploring her life instead of just being tied to responsibilities!

Sophie’s backstory feels one step closer to ending the class divide in the Bridgerton world!

Instead of coming up with a convenient back story to make Sophie a noble born and justify her marriage with Benedict, the show sticks to her truth of being an illegitimate child born out of wedlock. Sophie has lived as a maid all her life and convinced herself that’s the reality she will have to live with all her life. Until Benedict showed up and loved her whole heartedly for who she is! While the two do not work on paper, they still chose each other even if it came at the cost of sacrifice - something that’s rather unheard of in the 1800s!

The Bridgertons have Benedict’s back, as they rightfully should!

Benedict could have easily been pressured and forced to leave Sophie and pushed into another marriage with a girl of high nobility. But that’s not how the Bridgertons roll! On the contrary, they became equally rebellious and hatched a plan so Benedict could find a way to marry Sophie without having to alter his happiness. In an era that’s so invested in ‘log kya kahenge?’, the Bridgertons really couldn’t care less! 

Adding to that, there’s no unnecessary in-laws drama at the Bridgerton house!

There’s no sister-in-law jealousy or cat-fights with the mother-in-law. The Bridgertons prove their sophistication and kindness through accepting any new member of the family with open arms. Every daughter in law of theirs has felt no less than a daughter and someone who sits at the table along with the others as an equal! 

Sophie accepts Benedict’s sexuality without any hesitation 

Season 4 part 2 also holds a very significant scene where Benedict comes out to Sophie about his sexuality. Bi-sexuality was unheard of and extremely taboo in a society like Mayfair so for Sophie to accept Benedict for who he is and love him either way is a bigger deal than we think it is!

Penelope’s transition from Gossip Girl to Carrie Bradshaw is empowering to watch on-screen!

There’s not a better writer than Penelope in all of Mayfair and her decision to stop Whistledown after it got too much for her to keep up with post the identity reveal was something we did not see coming! But our favourite author in town is taking a leap of faith to do bigger and better things. With Penelope kickstarting her first novel, we cannot wait to see what her book has in store! And not to forget how Colin and her entire family supports her talents and gives her the space to shine! 

Lastly, Lady Danbury bringing out the globe trotter in her!

Lady Danbury has been a beloved friend and confidante to Queen Charlotte and now her duties as the lady in waiting have finally come to an end! As she steps outside the Bridgerton world for her adventures around the world, it’s liberating to see yet another woman in the Bridgerton world not limiting herself to daily gossip or attending yet another ball. But step out in the world to face anything that life throws at them and fill their bucket with more experiences!
