Mansplaining masculinity? Too overrated!

Men's Day

It’s high time men stopped mansplaining what ‘masculinity’ is supposed to look and feel like to fellow men who are more secure about themselves!

There has always been this orthodox and narrow conception of masculinity since the dawn of time. Men cannot wear color. Men can’t cry. Men can’t adorn skirts or make up. And Queer men are ridiculously trolled and type casted to them not being ‘masculine’ enough at all. Basically anything that gives life is not considered masculine. They’re supposed to be tough as a coconut and just not emote. But this whole ‘mard ko dard nahi hota’ is so outdated. It’s the time to move ahead with the times and be around or raise men that know masculinity has got nothing to do with how they look or what their sexuality is. It’s an abstract concept first of all, each to his own. Enforcing an idea on someone feels dictation and not natural after a point. A man could be wearing jewelry, have long hair, paint their nails and still look just as hot while still being very secure in their masculinity. The world’s comments can’t shake their beliefs. They walk with their heads up high as they should. It’s what accepting who you are truly means!

Iconic celebrities from pop culture have often broken these conformed stereotypes about what masculinity should look like and we love them for that!

The gays leading the way!

From Karan Johar to the entire cast of Queer Eye, Gay men have been victims of trolling numerous times on social media. It’s bizarre how people get made fun of simply for their sexuality. These men have not only spoken bravely about who they are but also showed us that gay men can look dapper in a suit, have a hot body, a meticulously planned skincare routine, and an attitude that could conquer the world. These so-called ‘unsuitable boys’ of society have shown how to put yourselves first, and your small little opinion cannot dim their shine, honey!

Bring on the funk and color!

There’s nothing sexier than a man who knows his style. Who wants to explore beyond the jeans, tshirts and a sneaker. Ranveer Singh has been the poster child for ‘what not to wear’ and that always really confused me. Why is it that you can only be taken seriously as a man if you have subtle fashion choices? Why does he need to be mansplained about what he should wear? Ranveer along with many other male celebrities like Jim Sarbh, Pedro Pascal, have never really given two dimes about what others think of their fashion choices. They’ve ruled magazine covers with funky prints, skirts and a whole lot of color we didn’t even know existed

The ones who know doing the dishes or cooking won’t make them any less of a man

It’s ironic how in a country where men are not supposed to cook, one of the biggest faces of Indian cooking is a man, aka Sanjeev Kapoor. Jungkook of BTS went live a plethora of times this year. And he is either doing the laundry, doing the dishes or cooking during his lifestreams. Men like them set the right example and are great role models for the future generation. To simply make sure we aren’t breeding anymore man childs into this world!

Diamonds are not only a girl’s best friend!

Most K-pop fans might relate to this. It’s super normal for K-pop artists to wear jewelry. In fact in Korea most men do not have a beard. Simply put, their idea of masculinity and what women there find attractive is very different from the rest of the world. So many of us, including me, realized how good jewelry can look on men when I first saw BTS pulling them off so stylishly. From shiny diamond necklaces layered one after the other to dangling earrings and even colored hair, Korean celebrities have often served us look after look without any hesitation of how the rest of the world would perceive them.

Therapy makes you stronger!

While not many male celebrities have spoken about mental health openly, Karan Johar in his first episode of Koffee with Karan season 8 bravely mentioned about how he recently suffered an anxiety attack. He has been seeking therapy for a while now. It takes a lot to share your personal stories with the world and it would be so helpful it more men came forward spoke about their struggles with mental health so it's easier for more and more people to do so as well!

Men's day

So this International Men’s day, cheers to men who shatter these eye roll worthy stereotypes and are proudly comfortable in their own skin!
