In the era of remakes and spin off, we have yet another iconic show that jumped on the bandwagon. And here’s my first impression of the Suits LA pilot episode!
Suits LA follows a new group led by Ted Black, a former New York prosecutor who built an L.A. law firm that specializes in criminal and entertainment law. Carrying forward the legacy of Suits which is a show loved by so many people worldwide, it’s a given that the pressure’s on! The first episode aired earlier this week and it’s safe to say that the makers are trying to bank on the nostalgia factor immensely! From clothes and the posture to the way they talk, it’s rather similar to the previous characters. Having said that, the show is living up to the Suits name in terms of the costumes, sets and the legal jargons that we have missed quite a bit! Will the spin off show be forgettable as a shadow of its predecessor or bring an individuality of its own to the table, is something that we’ll know with time!

For now, here’s what the first episode had me thinking!
There were no introductions, no backstories, it all starts like we already know the new characters
The episode starts with chaos where everyone has some or the other issue in the firm. It felt too confusing to understand who is who as it was all a mess and it's Iike I was put in the deep end of the pool, left to figure it all out by myself! It felt like I was watching just any random episode from any season instead of the pilot. It instantly took me back to reminiscing about the OG Suits pilot episode where we were hooked from the very beginning. Remember when Mike sneaks into the firm, gets a meeting with Harvey, and instantly gets the job because that’s just how smart he was? Using a time travelling machine to go back to the good old days would be nice right about now!
Ted Black can never be Harvey Specter!
Ted Black has a strong personality and there’s no doubt about that. But he isn't smart as Harvey. While I know this is a show of its own, I cannot help but make comparisons between the two simply because the way Ted Black walks, talks and the way he handles his cases is so similar to Harvey and yet so different from him! IYKYK!
Why do all the new characters seem like look alikes of the characters from the OG show?
There were many scenes in the first episode where Ted was shot from certain angles where he looked exactly like Harvey. His assistant dresses exactly like Donna and Erica is following Meghan’s footsteps in the dress department too. It’s almost as if the spin off show wants to keep us hooked to them with the nostalgia factor from the OG series.
No one does ‘enemies-to-lovers’ sexual tension like the Suits franchise!
Suits is not just known for its courtroom drama and office politics, it pretty much is the flag bearer of the enemies to lovers trope as well. The sexual tension between Erica and Rick and Ted and the pro bono girl is just through the roof and we all know where these arcs are eventually going to lead!
Ngl, I was desperately waiting for a Donna or Harvey cameo
While we know Donna and Harvey are going to make a comeback at some point during the course of this show, I was still waiting for it to happen in the first episode itself. I really need the OG cast to come and show these newbies how it's done!
I need to steal their wardrobe ASAP!
Having said all of the above, there’s no denying that the clothes still remain top notch and I need to know where Erica is getting her outfits from ASAP!
Of course the avid Suits fan also had their opinions to give on the show!
Is this the pilot episode or episode 3? It feels like they threw all these characters at us without any introduction and expect us to understand their current storylines they’re involved it.

I’m trying soo hard to like this but it’s giving rushed production. 🤷🏻♂️#SuitsLA pic.twitter.com/TmD1CaQ1FC

being plunged into the storylines of everyone's birth givers, uncles & cousins twice removed without properly introducing the main characters is where they fumbled. i have no idea what i just watched. #SuitsLA pic.twitter.com/aYvXmDGDut

Just saw the first episode of Suits : LA.

It was so bad that they might have an episode on it where the Suits : NY folks are suing them for loss of brand value.
Shoddy writing, insanely bad editing, and super cringe dialogues.
#SuitsLA Premiere. This is so bad. Every interaction is horrible attempt at witty banter. Legit feels like a TikTok parody of original Suits. Zero character development. Zero idea what is going on. Feel like I started midseason. Who are these people?

I think #SuitsLA has potential, but thru main character needs to drop the Harvey mannerisms and personality because right now it just feels like a bad remake instead of a spinoff 😩
