Just like celebrating festivals in films, songs about nature go completely hand in hand with Bollywood films and when better than World Earth Day to make a playlist of our own!
The most romantic and iconic scenes in Bollywood are always set against a stunning backdrop of nature showcasing pretty landscapes from all over the world. One of the major highlights for which Bollywood is famously known for is in fact its songs and complimenting the beautiful scenery. Over the years, the industry has curated a plethora of songs around various elements of Earth. The lyrics romanticize them so beautifully that nature and the person they’re singing it for become synonymous to one another. One of the biggest instances of this is ‘Suraj Hua Maddham’ from K3G. It's a song about the sunset at the end of the day but it has become such a great segway into romance and it's one of the most iconic Shahrukh-Kajol songs.
Some tracks really talk about nature outright like ‘Barso Re’ which is a love letter to rain and Aishwarya Rai celebrates that in the film with an upbeat choreography that’s etched in our minds. ‘Ghanan Ghanan’ from Lagaan emphasizes on how important water is for life on Earth. These songs also feel so empowering like how ‘Badal Pe Paon Hain’ literally means that you’re walking on the clouds and that could feel more motivational than feeling like you’re on the top of the world? Water and the sun aren’t the only elements though,‘Pancchi Nadiyaan Pawan Ke Jhonke’ which basically means birds, lakes and the wave of the wind, are these various other things that come together and build the soulful nature of mother Earth. Using these elements to describe feelings and to take a story forward is a rather unique and poetic way of unfolding the plot.
