Was Raksha Bandhan worth the wait and hype for the Janta? Let's find out!

The film starring Akshay Kumar was released on August 11, and Janta has a lot to say about this one.

The highly anticipated movie of this year, Raksha Bandhan is directed by Aanand L. Rai and written by Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon, and stars Akshay Kumar (Lala Kedarnath) in the lead along with Sadia Khateeb (Gayatri), Sahejmeen Kaur (Saraswati), Smrithi Srikanth (Laxmi), and Deepika Khanna(Durga) as his sisters. This film also stars Bhumi Pednekar(Sapna) as Akshay's childhood sweetheart. Raksha Bandhan is a family drama, where some parts are shown in a comedic way and some in an emotional way.

Akshay Kumar plays a gol gappa seller on the streets of Delhi who wants to marry off his siblings because of a vow he made when his mother was on her deathbed - he'd make sure his sisters were married and "settled" before he himself decided to get married. And his sole reason to live is to make money for the dowry for his sisters. The film was announced on Raksha Bandhan in 2021 and was released on Raksha Bandhan this year. Akshay Kumar has also called it the quickest film he has ever agreed to do. While some appreciate this film for the message it's spreading; there have also been talks of boycotting this one. This film addresses age-old practices like dowry but was it delivered in a sharp and consistent tone? Let's find out!
