We want violins and pianos to come out of thin air and play classical covers of these pop songs in the vintage era, all in the name of love!
Apart from swoon worthy romance and intimate scenes, Bridgerton is also known for giving popular songs its own renaissance era kinda classical twist. The songs make it easier for us to relate to the story. It almost feels like time travel when out of nowhere a song you know by heart starts playing in a period drama. Each one of them is powerful and deeply emotional in its own way. For instance, in the previous seasons we have seen Daphne and Simon waltz to Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams; the classical cover elevated the scene immensely and made it way more romantic and dreamy than we expected it to be. In season 2, we saw Anthony and Kate dance to Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus. Who would’ve thought a song so powerful and loud could also sound elegant and romantic when used in a completely different context. Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham also getting its classical makeover was a crossover none of us expected and none of us knew how badly we’d want it. As an Indian audience, watching the show and listening to the title track of a Bollywood movie we have grown up watching as the backdrop of a haldi scene makes you feel seen and represented. That is how beautifully the makers of Bridgerton experiment with their soundtrack. It is as carefully picked and curated as the story.
With season 3 on the way, it goes without saying that there’s going to be a lot of balls hosted by the noble families which include a lot of love, drama, sex and maybe even a heartbreak or two. We’d love to see it all unfolding amidst some of the recent pop songs that we’ve listened to on loop!
