Saif Ali Khan's and Akshay Kumar's bromance delivered laughs, lessons and unarguably the best episode of Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle so far!
After two disappointing episodes of Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle, the show finally seems to have got lucky the third time around with Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan’s rib-tickling humor delivering arguably the most entertaining episode of the season so far. The show featured the duo reminiscing about their experience of working with each other, especially in the 90s and shared updates about their upcoming Priyadarshan film, Haiwaan. Khan, for the very first time, opened up about the stabbing incident, and how the family navigated the difficult night together. The episode was just the right mix of profound and candid as the conversation then segued to Kumar and Twinkle Khanna’s marriage story with Khan too sharing memories of his early courtship with Kareena Kapoor Khan. Yes, the show still lacks razor-sharp execution usually required for a celebrity talk show to stand out from the rest and felt like it ended abruptly, however with better games and the chemistry between hosts and the guests, episode 3 of Prime Video's chat show was an engaging affair.
Here are five thoughts I had while watching the episode!
Khan and Kumar’s bromance is iconic!
I’m a 2000s kid who grew up watching Saif Ali Khan and Shah Rukh Khan’s chemistry in Kal Ho Naa Ho and IIFA as hosts and always thought they should collaborate often. However, this episode felt like this duo too has the kind of bromance that could save any film, show or event through their collaboration. No wonder their jodi was so sought after in the 90s and they were cast in 6 films together!
Kumar’s pranks and storytelling skills are truly entertaining!
The episode started on a fun note with the hosts introducing their guests in the most quirky fashion and the camera showing the actors’ shenanigans backstage. Kumar and Khan were pranking an assistant director’s caller, that too in their broken Marathi! Later in the episode, Kumar took everyone down memory lane and shared a chaotic anecdote from a world tour featuring Kajol, Shah Rukh Khan, and Juhi Chawla, who performed for Madonna at the event, in the most hilarious way possible.“We were doing a world tour. I don’t know how this name came about, but it was Awesome Foursome,” he recalled. “Madonna came to watch our show. I gave my best performance, whatever I could do. Shah Rukh gave his best performance. She (Kajol) gave her ultra-best performance. Juhi did too, and then came this performer. He’d written this song and sung it for Madonna. He wrote it in the afternoon when he found out she was coming. He sang, ‘This song is... for you. You look to me a virgin. You have a virgin smile!’ And she’s sitting there with her kid and husband. But she was very nice. She waited till the song finished and then walked off. That was the end of the show. We didn’t get any Hollywood stars coming to watch us again.”
Marriage means the right mix of philosophy and pragmatism!
While talking about marriage and their love stories, Kumar shared that Khanna ran a thorough check of his genetic background before deciding to get married. While Khan opened about how he and Kareena would go on long walks and the latter would always ask him about his take on various topics, including love. And I think this could be the most progressive approach towards the decision of getting married - one that integrates a clear assessment of biological compatibility with a deep, ongoing intellectual and emotional dialogue!
Kumar’s success mantra is truly practical!
Kumar spoke about how he worked his way to the top accepting all sorts of films and roles, reiterating that consistency is the key to success. Addressing the newcomers, he asserted that they should keep working, no matter the size of their part in the project. He said, people often complain that they don't find good roles, but according to him they should grab any opportunity that comes their way. He said, "Money attracts money and work attracts work, and the work will attract bigger work. If you do this, you won't even realize that you started with 2 scenes, now you have 20 scenes and then you will have 200 scenes. You can attract it all.”
Khan’s wit and wisdom are unmatched!
Known for his quick, intelligent one-liners, delivered in the most sophisticated manner, Khan was arguably the star of the show as he kept injecting fun anecdotes from his personal and professional life throughout the conversation making it riotous to watch, especially when he shares his experience of working with the legendary director late Yash Chopra and the filmmaking culture of the 90s. It was probably the highlight of the show! Besides, the National award winning actor also shared some horrifying details of the break-in incident earlier this year and how he safeguarded his family against an armed attacker. Khan also responded to media speculation of it being fake with class and thoughtfullness. However, it was the rare candour with which he spoke of his marriage to ex-wife Amrita Singh, that won my heart!
Opening up about marrying young, he shared, “21 is young, and things change. We know that things didn’t work out. But apart from having two wonderful children, I don’t think I’ve said before how important Amrita was in my life… to help me understand my way through the film industry as well as understand quite a few things. Her contribution and help at that time have been quite invaluable. It’s a pity that things didn’t work out. Like I said, a wonderful mum. I am very lucky that my ex-wife and I get along really well. We usually speak about important things.” As a Gen Z navigating through the complexities of modern love and dating, I realised that true class and maturity doesn’t lie in erasing the past, but in acknowledging an ex-partner's positive role with respect and gratitude. His honest admission was nothing short of a progressive blueprint for handling break-ups with grace, serving much needed lesson for my generation!
