XO, Kitty season 2 review

Kitty Song Covey is back to create chaos at K.I.S.S. and here’s everything that went down in season 2!

XO, Kitty season 2 review: First things first, SPOILER ALERT– Nothing makes sense here! It’s that time of the year when you keep logic aside and binge on some light hearted, mindless, teen drama where you judge every little thing but can’t stop watching it either. You know sometimes people describe corny TV shows to be the same as a bad car crash you can’t look away from? XO, Kitty is just that! After a chaotic first year at Korean Independent School of Seoul aka K.I.S.S., Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) is ready for another semester of wrecking havoc. In short, she brings the drama-ma-ma-ma (as one of the soundtracks suggests).

Season 1 ended with Min-Ho (Lee Sang-Heon) making a big love confession to her on the plane, and season 2 starts with her rejecting his proposal. Since then, things have been awkward between the two. Poor Dae (Choi Min-Young) has no idea that his best friend has confessed his love to his ex-girlfriend five minutes after they broke up. Kitty rejects Min-Ho because she still has feelings for Yu-Ri (Gia Kim). Yu-Ri is still very much in love with Juliana (Regan Aaliyah). But Juliana is jealous of Yu-Ri’s closeness to Kitty. Just then Kitty finds a new love interest, Praveena (Sasha Bhasin). Speaking of new love interests, Kitty’s new roommate, Stella (Audrey Hunhy) asks Min-Ho out, Quincy (Anthony Keyvan) has his own enemies to lovers arc, and Dae finds a companion in Eunice (Ryu Han-Bi). Is anyone keeping track or should I make a periodic table? Everyone’s crushing on someone they shouldn’t and everyone’s mad at each other at some point in the show. From the first episode itself, it's clear that we’re going to be dealing with a confused bunch of teenagers but oddly enough, we can’t stop watching even though we’re judging HARD!

Kitty swears to focus on her studies this time around and not fall for distractions but proceeds to do everything but study this year as well. But amongst a sea of drama, Kitty also has some wholesome moments this season. For instance, her nosiness helps her discover new things about her mom’s family and that only brings her closer to Korean culture. The show seamlessly blends English and Korean without making it look fake or cringe in any sense. Even though it doesn’t look like it, friendships in XO, Kitty stay strong. They can beef all they want but when someone’s in need, the group does come to the rescue. And just like the previous season, there are trending K-Pop songs bringing so much personality this time around as well. From New Jeans’ Hype Boy to Jungkook’s Seven, the makers know how to win brownie points from the Hallyu Wave fans quite well!

All my bias aside (or maybe not), Min-Ho was my favorite character this season. A much more emotional and mature side of him comes out in the second chapter, but the sassy dialogues still remain untouched. One of the scenes where I laughed out loud was when Kitty speaks to him in Korean and he says “I can’t believe you just assaulted my ears with that”. He is the bonafide male version of Pooh from K3G. Min-Ho’s father also makes an appearance this season and you get a perspective into why he is the way he is, why he craves love, why he wants to impress his dad and why he shields his inner emotions with sarcasm. With so many mismatched couples, you constantly look for Min-Ho and Kitty crumbs this season and you just take whatever you get! The angst between them, the will-they won’t-they tension will keep you hooked till the end. While Min-Ho and Kitty are exploring different love interests in season 2, deep down they know and we know they’re the endgame!

To make Kitty realize this, Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo) himself makes a cameo this season and it’ll have you smiling wide. Peter, with his curly hair, insane height and oversized hoodie gives you nostalgia pro max. Just like Peter, we also realize the parallels drawn between ‘To All The Boys I’ve Ever Loved’ and ‘XO, Kitty’. There are many scenes that remind you of how Lara and Peter first fell in love. Kitty fake fainting on the track and Min-Ho rushing towards her, the two having their hot tub moment, will all take you back to five years ago when we first saw the OG movie. If this wasn’t enough, Min-Ho and Kitty also get wet in the rain which gives major Kuch Kuch Hota Hai vibes and if that isn’t peak romance, I don’t know what is!

Overall, season 2 of XO, Kitty is a roller coaster of a ride. From constantly switching relationships, finding out a mole amongst the new gang, battling their parental issues and more, a lot goes down with these teens. Superficial tropes with a dash of cute romance makes this the perfect recipe for a guilty pleasure watch over the weekend! Have I ended the show with a 100 complaints about Kitty? Duh! But will I be anticipating the next season? Without a doubt!
