The saree is making a comeback this season with fashion influencers donning it while simply traveling the world, for award shows or dinners with friends.
Growing up, I remember spending hours watching my mother get ready in front of a mirror as she draped a saree with so much elegance, tucking and adjusting, folding and holding the pleats, and pinning her pallu in place so she doesn't have a wardrobe malfunction in the middle of an event! Watching her do this felt like a ritual after a few years and I grew up to love how graceful a saree can make you feel! So it came as no surprise to me when I'd opt to wear a saree at almost every function during my early twenties or on a casual Sunday now, in my early thirties!
While I went on to borrow sarees from my mom, the way I'd style them was rather limited. And this is when fashion influencers on Instagram came to my rescue by showing me how to pair them with crop tops for an easy-breezy look, a raw silk corset for that cocktail night, and a basic sleeveless blouse in the same color for a clean and classy look! While we've watched celebrities being wrapped in sarees on red carpets, this year we also witnessed some of our favorite content creators at the Cannes red carpet in sarees, and were we floored or what!
