There's a reason why most parties in India are incomplete without Bollywood music from the 90's and early 2000's - they make us swing, sing and dance until our legs hurt and you can definitely spot us in a club full of Gen Zs because we'd be sporting the widest smiles while dancing to Koi Kahe Kehta Rahe. That's what this kind of music does to us, it brings up long drives, sobbing buckets while listening to Maa and being glued to the TV when Move Your Body would play on repeat. And this is possible because of music composers and singers like Shankar Mahadevan.
After giving us an iconic song like Breathless, that we still struggle to sing along to, he's given us so many songs that we can't have enough of, even 20+ years later whether that's cute songs like Uff Teri Ada or songs that didn't become too popular but reside in our hearts like Socho Ke Jheelon and Ruki Sukhi Roti. Each time his compositions or songs sung by him play on the radio or at a house party at 2 am, we pretty much lose our minds.
